While Hindus were preparing for Holi celebrations at home with cultural songs, nearby Muslims objected and attacked to halt the sound, injuring Hindus. This incident occurred on Sunday, March 24, at Pittala Basti in Chengicherla village, Medchal-Malkagiri district, Telangana. Pittal Basti is primarily populated by nomadic people (scheduled tribes). Chengicherla area is part of the Malkagiri Constituency, where సి‌ఎం Revanth Reddy served as MP before becoming the sworn in as State’s Chief Minister.

Near Pittala Basti, there is a mosque where Muslims come out after Namaz and object to the music, which residents deny, asserting that this is our festival, we celebrate it, and we are not disturbing others. Both sides argued; however, Muslims started verbally abusing Hindu women and started attacking with sticks and stones, resulting in severe injuries to women and men of the basti.

In the meantime, Medipally police arrived, lathi-charged the two sides, and dispersed the crowd. According to the police, both parties rushed to the police station and filed complaints against the other party.

The resident of Pittal Basti, in her complaint, accused Kaleem, Kaleel, Sharo, Sharo, Miraj, Siraj, Sarthaj, Hussain, Saleem, Ameer, Irfan, Mister, Ismail, Sohail, Shadul, Asif, and others of attacking them with sticks and stones, resulting in bleeding injuries to her head and a stomach to her colony resident. She claimed that some of her basthi members suffered bleeding injuries.

Today, a large number of Hindus, as well as many organisations and members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishath, began gathering at the Pittal Basti, raising chants against the assaults and demanding severe action against the perpetrators of the crime.
G. Kishan Reddy, Telangana state BJP President and Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and DoNER, Eetala Rajender, BJP MP contestant from Malkajigiri constituency, and NVSS Prabhakar, BJP ex-MLA visited Chengicherla and interacted with residents of Pittal Basti of Chengicherla, assuring them of all kinds of support.

Members of VHP organisations and other Hindu organisations reached the venue, which is heavily barricaded by the police, restricting the free movement of the residents.

Dr. Shashidhar, VHP Telangana joint general secretary, speaking to Organizer on the issue, said, “The Chengicherla incident demonstrates that while Muslims are free to offer Namaz, Hindus are not free to enjoy their festivals because it hurts Muslims. A dangerous trend is being set to normalize in the name of secularism, for which Hindus should be alert.
He further urged that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy take action against the rioting Muslim mob, as the Chengicherla area is part of the Malkagiri Constituency, where he previously served as MP before becoming the state’s chief minister.

Madhavi Latha, a Hyderabad BJP contestant, and several other BJP leaders also visited Pittal Basti and extended their support.

Recently, a Muslim mob attacked a Hindu for playing Hanuman Chalisa at his shop in Bangalore.
