Now let us move on to some of the must-have traditional foods that you can enjoy during Holi celebrations in 2024:

Gujiya: From small households to big fortunes, no Holi celebration is complete without this sweet, arch-shaped dish. Gujiya is one of those dishes that is made during the Holi festival. It is made with a delicious mixture of khoya (milk solids), dry fruits, and grated coconut. Some people prefer to flavor it with the essence of cardamom and saffron. Once made, it is then deep-fried till it is golden and then dipped in sugar syrup. This makes each bite of Gujiya a heavenly delight.

Thandai: Another item on the list of traditional foods during Holi festivities is a refreshing glass of Thandai. This drink can be enjoyed during Holi day or in the evening in a get-together with loved ones. It is a blend of milk, nuts (such as almonds, cashews, and pistachios), spices as per taste (including saffron, cardamom, and black pepper), and a touch of rose water (if required). It is believed that it cools the body and adds a flavorful punch to the celebrations.

Pakoras: Crispy irresistible Pakoras are a favorite snack during Holi for all family members be it a kids or adults. This dish is deep-fried and can be made with various ingredients such as potatoes, onions, spinach, or paneer (Indian cottage cheese) as per choices of family members. Once fried, pakoras are served with tangy chutneys or sauces. No doubt Pakoras are a crowd-pleaser.

Bhang Pakode: For those looking to add an extra dose of fun to their Holi celebrations, Bhang ke Pakode are another options and a must-try. Similar to basic pakoras, but these are infused with bhang (a derivative of cannabis), which is considered auspicious during Holi. These pakodas add a unique flavour and add a playful element to the Holi celebrations.

Puran Poli: This is one of the traditional foods that hails from Maharashtra. Puran Poli is a sweet flatbread that is stuffed with a filling of cooked lentils, jaggery, and spices. It is typically served with a lump of ghee or milk. The rich flavors and melt-in-your-mouth texture make Puran Poli a typical Holi treat for all.

Dahi Vada/ Bhalla: This is a soft lentil dumpling that is soaked in creamy yogurt and garnished with tangy tamarind chutney and spicy masalas. Dahi Bhalla/ Vada is a popular snack during Holi for all as it offers a perfect balance of flavors and textures, making it a delightful addition to the festive spread.

Gulab Jamun: Gulab Jamun is a classic Indian dessert that is enjoyed on various occasions, including Holi. Usually Indian prefer to eat it post lunch/ dinner. These are round but can vary in shape.
