Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently drawn attention to an essential aspect of India’s development that often goes unnoticed – the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. While the inauguration of grand temples like the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the Kalki Dham Mandir in Uttar Pradesh has garnered significant attention, PM Modi emphasized the critical role played by the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in transforming Indian villages.

While addressing a gathering at a conclave that was organised by one of the media houses, PM Modi highlighted the significance of these wellness centres, which provide modern healthcare facilities in rural areas. Describing them as centres of wellness, PM Modi outlined their role in providing healthcare services worth up to Rs 5 lakh free of charge to the villagers.

“The Aayushman Arogya Mandirs are the centers of wellness and provide modern healthcare facilities in villages. People get health treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh free of charge,” stated PM Modi.

PM Modi revealed that over 1.5 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been constructed across Indian villages, marking a substantial investment in rural healthcare infrastructure. These mandirs, formerly known as Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs), were renamed and revamped in November 2023 to emphasise their role in promoting holistic health.

Apart from basic pathological tests, the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs also offer preliminary screenings for diseases like diabetes and cancer. Furthermore, they are digitally linked to larger hospitals to ensure seamless treatment for villagers. Through initiatives like telemedicine and the e-Sanjivini app, these mandirs have facilitated over 24 crore consultations, showcasing the significant impact of technology in revolutionising rural healthcare delivery.

PM Modi underscored that while temples often dominate headlines, the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs represent a crucial aspect of India’s healthcare revolution. He emphasised the need to acknowledge and discuss the transformation occurring in the healthcare sector, particularly in rural areas.

“Indian villages are witnessing a healthcare revolution, but enough is not being discussed about the transformation in the healthcare sector,” PM Modi remarked.

The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs aim to promote preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative healthcare, aligning with PM Modi’s vision of ‘One Earth One Health.’ These centres play a vital role in ensuring access to quality healthcare services for rural populations, contributing to the government’s efforts to achieve universal health coverage.

As PM Modi continues to emphasise the importance of holistic development and inclusive growth, initiatives like the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs serve as pillars of progress, ensuring that no corner of the country is left behind in India’s journey towards prosperity and well-being.
