LWE: Maoist carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh killed in Kanker; security forces nab 5 Maoists in back to back ops.

Security forces in a joint operation launched in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, have apprehended as many as three cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India Maoist (CPI Maoist) on Saturday, March 16.

The operation was launched by a joint team comprising of personnel from Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), the Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) and the Reserve Police Force (CRPF), where three Maoist cadres identified as Rohit Padam, Yulip Jojo and Basu Bahanda were arrested, informed the police on March 17.

The arrest was made in the Panchaltabru area near Rairova and Rela Paral villages under Maoist affected Goilkera police station limits of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Saturday. During the operation, the security forces also seized a huge quantity of explosive materials, along with arms and ammunition in the possession of the Maoists.

According to the information provided by the police, the joint team recovered a three not three rifle, magazine, 67 rounds of live cartridges, explosives weighing around 60 kilogrammes, ammonium nitrate, 197 pieces of serienge mechanism, 27 pieces of arrow bombs, and other materials related to explosive making.

Additionally, the joint team has also seized notebooks and other extremist literature on the basis of information provided by the arrested accused. Further recovery includes life saving drugs and other materials pertaining to daily use.

Two Maoist held in Aurangabad

Notably, in another development reported from Aurangabad district of Bihar, as many as two cadres of the outlawed CPI Maoist were also held in a joint operation launched by the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and district police in Aurangabad on Saturday.

Two Maoists, Lallan Yadav and Sarvesh Bhagat, alias Shravan, were nabbed following a gunfight that occurred under Pouthu police station limits of Aurangabad, according to police on March 16.

The joint team has also seized as many as 2 country-made pistols along with 11 rounds of live cartridges from the possession of the arrested Maoists.

Maoist carrying a reward of 8 lakhs neutralised in Chhattisgarh

In another development on the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) front, security forces in a separate operation launched in the Koylibeda area of Maoist-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh have neutralised a seasoned Maoist following an exchange of fire that took place between the forces and the extremist on Saturday, March 16.

According to the reports, the encounter occurred between the Alparas and Kakanaar forest areas, where a Maoist commander identified as Manker was killed. Manker was active as commander of battalion no. 5 of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) and was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakhs, informed police.

It must be noted that the Security Forces offensive campaign against the left wing insurgents is in full swing in Maoist affected areas across the country, which has resulted in the arrest, surrender, and killing of a number of commanders of the banned outfit in recent times.
