The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended the FCRA licence of Jesus Redeems (076160018), an NGO run by Christian Evangelist Mohan C. Lazarus. Tuticorin-based Jesus Redeems has a very dubious record of receiving foreign funds from organisations that are known to have sinister designs against Indian interests.

#BIG_BREAKING:
Following our multiple complaints, the Government of India has suspended the FCRA registration of Jesus Redeems (FC: 076160018) headed by notorious & rabid evangelist Mr. Mohan C. Lazarus https://t.co/AEnKkFRpTD

— Legal Rights Protection Forum (@lawinforce) March 16, 2024

In November 2024, LRPF, a legal rights group, approached the MHA requesting a comprehensive investigation of the activities of Jesus Redeems and its foreign donors.

In its complaint, LRPF stated “The act of Mr. Mohan Lazarus alias Mohan C. Lazarus as a Chief Functionary to the ‘Jesus Redeems’ attracts the various sections of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010 which amounts to suspension/cancellation of the FCRA registration of the said organisation: Chapter II, 9 (e) (v): causing disharmony between religious, racial, social, linguistic or regional groups, castes or communities. Chapter III, 12 (4) (f) (vi): causing disharmony between religious, racial, social, linguistic or regional groups, castes or communities.

The LRPF also requested that MHA to investigate the status of ‘Jesus Redeems’ official magazine, that is being published by Mohan C. Lazarus. It also alleged that the said NGO has operations in several other countries, including America, Australia, Dubai, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada and Sri Lanka. Jesus Redeems is continuously organising Christian religious events abroad and inviting Pastors from different countries including China. Whether the expenses for such events are shown in its audit reports is to be investigated.”

Jesus Redeems also received huge foreign funds from directors of DANGOTE Group, a Mining conglomerate based out of Nigeria with extremely close ties with Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd which is a Chinese State-owned and state-administered company.

Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. is a prominent member company affiliated with China National Building Materials Group Co., Ltd. under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). Nigeria has made China the largest Trading Partner replacing the United States of America. A Chinese state-owned Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd has signed a deal worth $4.3bn (£2.8bn) to build factories for a Nigerian cement company belonging to Dangote Group.

LRPF also raised doubts about Mohan C. Lazarus’s role in being a member of the donor organisation registered in US and receiver group in India. It stated that this Christian Evangelist is holding the position of Chief Executive Officer to an US registered Public Charity organization named Jesus Redeems Ministries Inc. which is located in Rocklin, CA.
