The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday, March 13, featuring 72 contenders from 11 states across the country.

Among the prominent names announced in the list, Manohar Lal Khattar, who recently resigned as the Chief Minister of Haryana, will contest from the Karnal constituency. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been nominated to run from Mumbai North, while Anurag Thakur will seek re-election from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur constituency.

Tejasvi Surya, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha chief, has been fielded from Bangalore South, while the party’s national secretary will contest from Maharashtra’s Beed, a stronghold of her family. Nitin Gadkari, another Union Minister, will contest from Nagpur, and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be on the ballot from Haveri.

This announcement comes on the heels of the BJP’s initial list released on March 2, which featured 195 candidates from 16 states and two Union Territories. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were prominent inclusions, with Modi contesting from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Shah from Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The first list also included 34 Union Ministers and two former Chief Ministers.

As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the BJP appears poised and confident, setting ambitious targets for the polls. Prime Minister Modi has set a goal of winning 370 seats for the party independently, and over 400 seats in collaboration with its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition.

The BJP’s selection of candidates reflects a strategic approach, with an eye on securing victory in key constituencies across the country. The inclusion of prominent leaders and fresh faces underscores the party’s commitment to fielding a diverse and dynamic team capable of addressing the needs and aspirations of the electorate.

With the election date expected to be announced soon, the BJP’s preparations are in full swing as it aims to build on its past successes and secure a decisive mandate in the upcoming polls. The party’s unwavering confidence and ambitious targets signal its determination to continue leading the country on the path of progress and development.
