Bongaigaon, Assam: A wave of anguish and outrage swept through Bongaigaon as residents united to demand justice for a minor girl who met a tragic end at the hands of Sarfaraz Hussain. The victim, missing since March 5th, was discovered lifeless on March 9 at the Rail market of Dangtola in Bongaigaon, intensifying public fury.

Locals said that Sarfaraz trapped the minor girl in fake love and started blackmailing her to marry him by converting to Islam. But the girl refused to do so and started avoiding him. The accused, along with his companion, abducted the girl on March 5 and allegedly raped her before killing the minor. The grim details emerged, revealing a horrifying sequence of events: the perpetrator abducted, allegedly raped, and then callously disposed of the young girl’s body in the railway backyard. Grieving residents banded together, demanding justice for the victim and stringent punishment for those responsible.

On March 10, an assembly of hundreds gathered at No2 Railgate of Natunpara, expressing discontent with perceived police negligence during the search for the missing girl. The crowd voiced demands for accountability and a thorough investigation into the case, punctuating their sentiments with slogans condemning both the alleged perpetrator and the police.

Additional SP Bongaigaon, Sabita Das, attempted to diffuse the escalating situation upon her arrival. However, the unrest persisted, prompting District Collector Nabadeep Pathak and SP Mohan Lal Meena to intervene. Pledging a meticulous investigation, the officials assured the crowd of a thorough inquiry into any potential negligence by the concerned police officer, the IC of New Bongaigaon police outpost.

Despite these assurances, community frustration reached a boiling point, resulting in a blockade of roads and rail tracks from midnight until 3 pm. The stand-off concluded only after authorities managed to pacify the crowd, promising justice and a fair investigation into the heart-wrenching incident.

Meanwhile, Assam police arrested Sarfaraz Hussain from a hideout in the district on March 10 night.

As Bongaigaon grapples with the aftermath, questions regarding the safety and security of young girls persist. The incident underscores the urgent need for a swift and transparent legal process to bring closure to the heinous crimes committed by Islamists across the country. Meanwhile, the Assam government has issued a stern order for proper investigation of the sad murder of the minor Hindu girl.
