ABVP-JNU condemns the recent incident of harassment of female students near JNU’s Admin Block. An unknown person was caught inappropriately touching himself (masturbating) while staring at girls in the area and sexually harassing the women. This act is shameful and a violation of the safety of all students in the campus.
There have been ongoing reports of harassment and intimidation of female students near the administration bus stop over the past month. These incidents have created a climate of fear and insecurity among the students and highlighted the serious shortcomings in JNU’s security measures.
It is deeply concerning that these incidents are happening so close to the JNU administration building. If students are not safe in this central location, what about the rest of the campus?
We remind you of another incident just a few months ago, where a female student was walking on the Ring Road and some outsiders tried to abduct her. Thankfully, she managed to escape.
These repeated incidents show a clear pattern of rising harassment in the JNU campus, putting the safety of students at risk.
ABVP-JNU demands that the JNU administration and Delhi Police take immediate and strict action against those involved in these crimes.
To emphasise the seriousness of this issue and demand swift action, ABVP-JNU has closed the main gate of JNU and will not reopen it until the culprit in this unfortunate incident is arrested.
We urge the JNU administration and Delhi Police to work together to ensure the safety of all students on campus. This includes increased security presence, improved lighting, and a more responsive mechanism for reporting and addressing harassment incidents.
