National Science Day 2024’s theme is Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat. This has been chosen as the theme of National Science Day to emphasize the relevance of indigenous innovations and to showcase the work of Indian scientists. The topic heralds a new age and provides an opportunity for the public and scientific community, both domestically and worldwide to unite, collaborate, work and contribute to the well being of humanity and India.
Promoting Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat will help address global concerns and emphasize the need to make India Atmanirbhar through science, according to a statement released by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

The National Science Day is observed annually on February 28 in India to honor the discovery of the Raman effect. National Science Day is celebrated nationwide with theme based scientific communications events. On February 28, 1928, the Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhar Venkat Raman announced to the world his discovery of the Raman effect. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930.
In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) had asked the Government of India (GoI) to declare February 28 as the National Science Day. The first National Science Day was celebrated on February 28, 1987. It is also called as Bhartiya Vigyan Diwas.
The primary goal of the National Science Day is to raise awareness of the importance of science and its applications among people. Every year, the National Science Day is observed as one of India’s major science festivals in order to achieve a variety of objectives. On National Science Day, numerous students from schools and institutions present a variety of science projects. Additionally, national and state science institutions showcase their latest research.
