In a fervent display of devotion and philatelic enthusiasm, Hyderabad witnesses a surge in demand for commemorative stamps featuring Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir. The Telangana postal department’s philately wing reports a staggering sale of 500 to 700 miniatures within a span of just three days, highlighting the profound reverence for Sri Ram and the significance of the newly constructed Mandir.

The commemorative stamp collection, comprising six distinct stamps, intricately portrays key figures and symbols associated with Sri Ram’s narrative. From the majestic Ram Mandir to revered deities like Bhagwan Ganesh and Bhagwan Hanuman, each stamp encapsulates the essence of the timeless epic. Notably, the use of gold leaf detailing for elements such as the sun rays and the Choupai ‘Mangal Bhavan Amangal Hari’ adds a regal touch to the miniature sheets, captivating collectors and devotees alike.

With designs reflecting the five elements of nature – sky, air, fire, earth, and water, known as ‘Panchabhutas,’ the commemorative stamps transcend mere philatelic significance, symbolising a harmonious union of spirituality and artistry. Furthermore, the limited availability of these stamps, with only 2,100 miniatures printed, intensifies the fervour among collectors and enthusiasts.

In response to the overwhelming demand, the Telangana postal department has imposed restrictions, limiting sales to two miniatures per person to ensure equitable distribution. This move aims to accommodate the growing interest while maintaining accessibility for all enthusiasts.

The miniature sheets, priced at 100 rupees, alongside first-day covers at 50 rupees and cancelled first-day covers at 150 rupees, are available at the Hyderabad GPO. Sunil Sharma, deputy director general of philately at India Post, sheds light on the production constraints, emphasising the intricate detailing involved and the limited daily output from the Security Printing Press.

The unprecedented demand for the commemorative stamps featuring Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir underscores the enduring reverence for Sri Ram and the cultural significance of the newly constructed Mandir. As collectors and devotees alike clamour to acquire these prized possessions, the stamps serve as poignant reminders of faith, tradition, and artistic excellence.
