In the midst of escalating tensions and protests in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, veteran Bollywood actor and BJP leader, Mithun Chakraborty, launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent remarks targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The actor’s remarks came as a response to Banerjee’s allegations that Sandeshkhali had become an RSS stronghold, further implicating the organisation in orchestrating violence in the region.
Chakraborty vehemently opposed Banerjee’s assertions, stating, “Nothing can be more shameful than this. There is RSS all over India. This is not a negative force, RSS is a positive force.” He further emphasised the importance of acknowledging organisations that have made significant sacrifices for the country, challenging Banerjee to name any such entity.
The ongoing protests in Sandeshkhali have predominantly been led by women demanding justice and the arrest of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Shaikh and his supporters. Allegations against Shaikh and his associates include land grabbing and sexual assault, particularly targeting Hindu women.
