The inauguration of Mararji Bhavan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Kerala head office, took place on February 12 with pooja rituals commencing at 5 am and concluding by 11 am. At 11:30 am, ‘Milk Warming’ was conducted by seven women from tribal communities in Idamalakkudi, Idukki district. Poojas were conducted by Mallappalli Krishnan Nambootiri, a faculty member of Thanthra Vidya Peetam near Kochi, a premier institute established by veteran RSS Pracharak P Madhavji. This institute aims to train interested youths, regardless of caste, in temple priesthood, based on the principles of the “Paliyam Vilambaram” (Paliyam Proclamation) led by Madhavji, which emphasises that Brahmanya (Brahminhood) can be attained through deeds rather than birth.
A distinguished gathering from various sectors of society attended the rituals. Among them were Union Minister V. Muraleedharan, former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair, NDA convener Thushar Vellappalli, writer Prof. Ji George Onakkoor, renowned magician Gopinat Muthukat, Malayalam actor Maniyan Pillai, G Sankar, acclaimed filmmaker Syamaprasd, and spiritual leaders Swami Sandrananda, Swami Gururatna Njaana Thapaswi, and Swami Aswati Tirunal. Additionally, G Rajmohan, M Sangeethkumar, Dr Hareendran Nair, Faisal Khan, Reghuchandran Nair, Renjith Karthikeyan, and E M Najeeb were in attendance. BJP leaders O Rajagopal, K Raman Pillai, C K Padmanabhan, P K Krishnadas, Kummanam Rajasekharan, and A P Abdullakkutti, along with RSS leaders K Radhakrishnan, S Sudarsanan, and P N Easwaran, also graced the event. The function was led by BJP state president K Surendran, who honored the builders for their significant contributions to the construction.
Mararji Bhavan, constructed in Kerala style and architecture, embodies eco-friendly principles. Designed as a traditional nalukettu, it features structures on all four sides with an open courtyard at the center, allowing ample light and air into every room. The central space facilitates rainwater harvesting, while a pond adorned with blooming lotus adds to its charm. The two lower floors serve as dedicated parking areas in this six-story building, which is equipped with modern amenities, facilities, and information technologies throughout.
Now, the BJP state office has found its permanent home. Despite the Jan Sangh’s presence in Kerala since the 1950s, it had always operated from rented premises. K. Surendran remarked on this occasion that the inauguration of the new party office fulfills the aspirations of countless workers from RSS, BJP, VHP, and other Sangh-inspired organizations who dedicated their lives to the ideologies they cherished.
The State BJP office relocated from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram in 1985 and has since operated from rented premises. Upon its move to Thiruvananthapuram, the office was christened “Mararji Bhavan” in honor of the late Kuruvannil Govinda Marar, a revered figure and former BJP state president known for his leadership qualities, including oratory, organizational skills, and compassion. Mararji was widely recognized across the State and endured imprisonment during the Emergency period (1975-1977) as a MISA prisoner.
With the BJP now established as a major political force at the national level, having well-equipped office facilities is seen as essential for optimal performance according to modern management principles. Nationalist supporters believe that the upgraded office facilities will provide a significant boost to the Kerala BJP’s prospects in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
