In a significant step towards realising the cultural ethos of Sanatan Dharma, Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister (CM), Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday, February 11 declared that the State government will celebrate February 14th as “Matr-Pitru Divas”. The decision holds significance as February 14 is widely celebrated as Valentine Day across Western countries.

“CM Vishnu Deo Sai has declared February 14 as Matr-Pitru Divas,” informed the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Office in a post on social media platform X. The CM announced while participating in a Matr-Pitru Pujan programme organised at Kandora of its home town Jashpur.

Taking to the X, CM Sai, while asserting that there is no greater service than serving one’s own parents, said that “I declare to celebrate February 14 as Matr-Pitru Pujan Divas.”

“These cultured and service spirited children will take forward Chhattisgarh on the path of development, I participated and interacted with these little children in a Matr-Pitru Pujan program and encourage them for this incredible work”, added CM Sai.

It is worth mentioning here that, of late, the first tribal (Janjati) CM of the tribal-dominated State has been emphasising the need to strengthen the Sanatan in Chhattisgarh while highlighting that the State has been a victim of rampant conversion promoted by missionaries, who are a dominant force in education and health sector.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Chandrasekhar Verma, the State President of the Visva Hindu Parishad (VHP) said that the decision is praiseworthy and the VHP welcomes it wholeheartedly. Speaking with the Organiser’s correspondent, Verma said  “the decision will impact the younger generation positively for sure, I cannot assure that it will be 100 per cent effective but it will act as a lamp in the darkness for sure, so we welcome the move of the government.”
