Armed Maoists have set ablaze vehicles and stopped the ongoing work at a construction site in the insurgency-hit Abujhmad region of Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh, suggest reports.
According to the details, the incident occurred on Thursday, February 1 when cadres of the outlawed outfit set ablaze a tractor, water tanker, along with a concrete mixer machine near Jivlapdar village under Kurushnar police station limits of Narayanpur.
Upon receiving the information, a police team also reached the spot on Friday morning, February 2, while a search operation in the vicinity was also being conducted to nab the extremists.
It is to be noted that this is not the first time that the Maoists have torched many vehicles engaged in construction work in the Bastar division, and the extremists have been carrying out such acts of arson to disrupt the development works in other parts of the southern region of the State as well.
The incident occurred days after the extremists launched a well-orchestrated attack on the security forces near the Teaklguda village of Sukma district, in which as many as three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred on January 30.
It has been learned that as many as six of the cadres of the banned outfit were also killed in the retaliatory fire opened by the forces. The encounter took place near the strategic Tekalguda area, where the forces are setting up a Forward Operating Base (FOB).
A similar attempt of the forces to firm their grip in the region also met with solid resistance from the extremists in 2021, where the security personnel suffered heavy casualties.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, after chairing a high-level meeting with the security officials on Wednesday, has further instructed to intensify the counter-insurgency operations in the Maoist hotbed while keeping extra vigil during the movement of personnel.
On Thursday, February 1, CM also announced an additional financial assistance of Rs10 lakh each to the families of the martyred personnel in the Tekalguda attack and asserted that his government is committed to eradicating the insurgency in Chhattisgarh.
