Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Assam, beginning on February 3. The highlight of his visit is the groundbreaking ceremony for the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor, a flagship project under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme. This initiative, named Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana, reflects the government’s commitment to holistic development and is poised to transform the religious and cultural landscape of the region.

Scheduled for February 4, the ceremony will take place at the revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, mirroring the successful Kashi-Vishwanath Temple Corridor project in Varanasi. The Rs 500 crore initiative aims to enhance the infrastructure surrounding the temple, marking a significant milestone in the region’s development.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a media briefing, emphasised the far-reaching impact of the Maa Kamakhya Corridor under the PM-DevINE scheme. The project aligns with the government’s vision for comprehensive growth across the country.

PM Modi’s visit will also witness the inauguration and laying of foundation stones for various development projects totaling over Rs 11,000 crores. The Prime Minister is expected to address the citizens of the state from Khanapara veterinary field at around 11.30 am on February 4, unveiling projects by both the State and Central Governments.

One of the significant projects to be launched during the visit is the second edition of the ‘Asom Mala’ program, focusing on the construction of 43 new roads across the state with an estimated expenditure of Rs 3044 crores. This initiative is set to give a boost to the South East Economic Corridor, as highlighted by Chief Minister Sarma.

The Assam government’s commitment to sports development is evident in the approval to renovate the historic Nehru stadium in Guwahati into a FIFA and Olympic standard football ground, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 831 crores. Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for a multi-facility sports complex in Chandrapur, intended for hosting the National Games.

A major healthcare initiative is also on the agenda, with the development of a new-age hospital capable of treating 3,500 patients simultaneously, making the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) the largest medical center in Eastern India. Furthermore, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for Karimganj Medical College in Barak Valley and a unity mall, both receiving funding from the central government.

Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the expected turnout of 1 to 1.5 lakh people for PM Modi’s public meeting, with approximately 5,000 Lakhpati Didi (Baideu) likely to attend. This underscores the enthusiasm and anticipation surrounding the visit.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Assam signifies not only the launch of transformative projects but also the government’s unwavering commitment to the overall development of the region. As Assam gears up for a new phase of growth, these initiatives are poised to leave a lasting impact on the economic, cultural, and infrastructural landscape of the state.

Ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pivotal visit to Assam takes on added significance. Set against the backdrop of unveiling development projects exceeding Rs 11,000 crores, this visit serves as a rallying point for BJP leaders and supporters. The state BJP is fervently gearing up for this momentous occasion, viewing it as the initial salvo in the upcoming Lok Sabha election campaign. With PM Modi slated to address a colossal public rally, this event not only boosts the morale of the party faithful but also signals the commencement of a vigorous electoral campaign, setting the stage for a dynamic political landscape in Assam.
