The Chhattisgarh Government has announced that it will provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of all the security personnel who attained martyrdom while fighting with the Maoists near the Tekalguda village on the Bijapur-Sukma border.

The Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the families of the martyred personnel of Tekalguda encounter will get additional assistance of Rs10 lakhs each apart from the financial aid given by the State and Union Government, informed CMO, Chhattisgarh in a social media post on Thursday, February 1.

Earlier, while interacting with the media after chairing a high-level meeting with the concerned officials in the State’s capital, the Chhattisgarh’s CM on Wednesday, January 31, said that the previous government did not fight the Maoists with seriousness, thereby raising their morale.

CM Sai added, “Since the time our government has been formed, the fight against the extremists has gained strength, and our police personnel are displaying exceptional courage and valour while fighting with the Maoists. Security camps are being established on a regular basis, which has triggered the Maoists to act cowardly.”

The CM further asserted that the “end goal of his government is to eradicate Maoism from its roots, and they are leaving no stone unturned.”

Earlier in the day the CM chaired a high-level meeting with the top officials of the police and administration at Mahanadi Bhavan in Raipur and reviewed the current status of counter-insurgency operations.

The meeting was called in the wake of the deadly attack carried out by the ultras on a joint team of security personnel who were out on a routine combing operation near Tekalguda camp on January 30. The fierce gunfight between the forces and the extremists, which lasted for around 4 hours, resulted in martyrdom of as many as three security personnel.

The martyred personnel were later identified as constable Pawan Kumar, constable Devan C and Constable Lambhoodar Singha, all personnel of Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of Central Reserve Police Force. It’s been reported that as many as half a dozen extremists were also killed in the exchange of fire; however, till now, no official confirmation has been made on the same.

It’s been learned that the attack was led by the Jheeram Ghati massacre key attacker, Deva Barse who has reportedly rose to the rank of head of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) battalion no 1, replacing notorious Madavi Hidma, who has been reportedly promoted to the Central Committee, the decision-making unit of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).

It is to be noted that The PLGA battalion no. 1 is considered the most powerful unit of the armed wing of the banned CPI Maoist, which has a base in the south Bastar region.

Establishment of security camps in core insurgency zones

It is worth mentioning here that the security forces in recent years have opened dozens of security camps, often termed Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in the core insurgency zones in Bastar divisions, which were earlier considered hotbeds of insurgency.

The opening of these security camps in far-flung regions has turned out to be a game changer, as the establishment of these camps has not only strengthened the position of the security forces in the Maoist bastion but has also contributed immensely in carrying out the development works aimed at providing basic amenities to the residents who were earlier deprived of such facilities.

It is believed that the growing presence of security forces and ongoing development work has triggered the extremists to act out of frustration as they fear that the development of the region will further dent their hold on the villagers.
