The Vishnu Deo Sai-led Chhattisgarh Government will establish the first Ayurveda university in the State, informed parliamentary and tourism minister Brijmohan Agarwal.

Addressing a two-day alumni meet at the Ayush “Swarn Kumbh” at Raipur, Agarwal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promoted Ayush and Ayurveda, following which the world is now recognising the might of Ayurveda.

The minister further added that Ayurveda is part of our daily lives and our kitchens are centre of Ayurveda medicine. Agarwal further emphasises that the Ayurveda medicines have saved millions of lives during the Covid-19 period.

“A known person of Ayurveda can build an illness-free body; it’s from ancient times, and even when Lakshman Ji was unconscious, Vaidraj Sushen treated him with the help of Ayurveda. At that time, there was no  allopath, added Agarwal.

Agarwal was speaking at a two-day conference held in the heart of Chhattisgarh’s Capital, Raipur on Ayush and Ayurveda at Narayan Prasad Awasthi government Ayurveda college.

Further, while taking to the X, the minister informed that the promotion of principles and traditions of Ayurveda in the world will not only boost the promotion of Indian culture but it will also help people to be healthy.

“The government and people should work together to promote awareness about Ayurveda and Ayurvedic universities and colleges should be opened in view of which the State government is looking forward to open the first Ayurveda university in Chhattisgarh,” read further the tweet of Agarwal.

Coincidentally, the announcement made by the minister has arrived at a time when the union government has recently awarded the prestigious Padma Sri award to a traditional medical practitioner from the tribal-dominated state, Hemchand Manjhi.

Who is Hemchand Manjhi

Hailing from the remote terrain of Chotedongarpur, Narayanpur, traditional medical practitioner Vaidraj Hemchand Manjhi Manjhi has been serving the people of the surrounding area with its profound knowledge of Ayurveda medicine since the age of 15.

Now in his seventies, Hemchand has been serving the people for more than five decades and provides treatment of various life-threatening diseases such as cancer of many forms, blood sugar, and asthma.

In his pursuit to provide suitable and effective medicine in meagre amounts, Manjhi also visits the remote terrain of Abujhmaad Forest to get precious herbs on a regular interval. He has also been repeatedly threatened by the Maoists, though despite the threats and personal attacks, Manjhi continues to work for the needy and sick.

It is to be noted that, like the Chotedongarpur-based centre of Manjhi, there are also other centres in the state that provide affordable and effective Ayurveda treatments.

One of the famous centres for Ayurveda treatment at an affordable cost in the State is situated near Dhamtari. The centre runs in the remote village of Kapsi, where the Vidraj treats people with permanent damage to bones and veins through traditional Ayurvedic medicines named lep.

The centre attracts hundreds of people from the nearby area who have been suffering from serious issues pertaining to their bones and veins. It is to be noted that the State holds a large variety of precious herbs useful in the Ayurveda style of treatment.
