The Nagpur Police have heightened security measures around the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters located in the Mahal area of the city. In response to potential threats, the police have declared the RSS headquarters as a ‘no-drone’ zone until March 28, 2024. Additionally, photography and videography of the premises have been strictly prohibited during this period.
The decision, enforced under Section 144 (1) (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), comes in light of concerns raised by Joint Commissioner of Police Aswati Dorje regarding the densely populated surroundings of the RSS headquarters. Situated amidst hotels, lodges, and coaching classes, the area poses a heightened risk of unauthorised photography, videography, or drone activity, potentially compromising the security of the headquarters.
Commissioner Dorje emphasised the need for stringent measures, stating, “Individuals passing through the vicinity might engage in taking pictures and videos or employing drone videography, thereby posing a potential threat to the headquarters.” In adherence to the order, any violations will be met with action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to disobedience of orders issued by public servants.
The security alert, effective from January 29 until March 28, aims to safeguard the integrity and security of the RSS headquarters amidst growing concerns. The decision follows recent developments indicating a heightened risk to the premises.
According to police sources, security was significantly tightened following a bomb threat received via phone call. An unidentified individual contacted the Police Control Room, threatening to detonate a bomb at the RSS headquarters in the Mahal area. Responding promptly to the threat, the authorities deployed the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) along with canine units to conduct thorough inspections of the premises.
DCP of Zone III, Gorakh Bhamre, confirmed the incident, stating, “A phone call was received at the Police Control Room at 1 pm. A man threatened to blow up the RSS headquarters in the Mahal area with a bomb.” Despite the urgency of the situation, subsequent investigations revealed no suspicious activities or devices within the vicinity.
The swift response by law enforcement agencies underscores the seriousness with which potential threats to the RSS headquarters are being addressed. The proactive measures, including the imposition of a ‘no-drone’ zone and the ban on photography and videography, reflect a concerted effort to bolster security and ensure the safety of the premises and its occupants.
