Dibrugarh: In a momentous ceremony held at Dihing Khamtighat, Dibrugarh, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, responsible for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, alongside Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, unveiled ambitious plans for a Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN) and a 100-bedded Yoga & Naturopathy Hospital. The ceremony, marked by the laying of the foundation stone, showcased a commitment to integrating traditional healing practices with modern technology, fostering a convergence of ancient wisdom and contemporary medical science.

The sprawling 15-acre (45 bighas) facility, to be developed with an investment of approximately ₹100 crores, is poised to become a Centre of Excellence in Yoga & Naturopathy, particularly focusing on Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD). With a vision to pioneer research in non-communicable diseases (NCD), the institute will offer educational programs ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, fostering a new generation of experts in Yoga & Naturopathy.

Sarbananda Sonowal, speaking passionately at the event, remarked, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the Ayush movement has gained tremendous momentum as a global wellness force. Today’s foundation stone laying ceremony for the Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy in Dibrugarh is another testament to Modi ji’s commitment to harnessing the rich flora & fauna of the Northeast. This institution will not only contribute to healthcare but also stimulate growth in hospitality and medical tourism.”

The institution aims to establish benchmark standards in education, preventive healthcare, and research. Its role extends beyond national borders, functioning as an international collaboration centre for global promotion and research in Yoga and Naturopathy. Additionally, it will serve as an incubation centre for startups in the Yoga and wellness sector, fostering innovation in holistic healthcare.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reinforcing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He highlighted the importance of Naturopathy and Yoga in rejuvenating both the mind and body, emphasising the manifold benefits that the people of Assam and neighbouring regions will derive from this initiative.

The CRIYN will offer clinical training facilities for Yoga and Naturopathy experts, focusing on areas such as cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes rehabilitation, autoimmune diseases, and NCD risk reduction. Research and development efforts will lead to evidence-based protocols for the management of NCDs, integrating traditional practices with conventional care.

The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Labour & Employment Rameswar Teli, Minister of Health & Family Welfare Keshab Mahanta, and others who applauded the visionary step towards building a healthier nation.

The services provided by the center will encompass naturopathy diet and nutrition, yoga therapy, massage & manipulative therapies, acupressure, acupuncture, chromotherapy, magnetotherapy, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy treatments. This comprehensive approach aims to address a spectrum of health issues, including obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and more.

As Dibrugarh stands on the threshold of becoming a hub for holistic wellness, this initiative aligns seamlessly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Swastha Bharat, contributing to the global wellness movement and reinforcing India’s commitment to holistic healthcare.
