Arrested accused with the UP Police (Aaj Tak)
Yet another case has come to light in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a Hindu woman underwent a religious conversion and got married to a Muslim man. The police have registered a case against 9 individuals based on the complaint filed by the victim’s mother. Additionally, the police have arrested two individuals, including a Maulvi (Islamic cleric), in connection with the case.
Teams have been formed by the police to apprehend the remaining seven individuals, and raids are underway.
The incident occurred in the Sadar Kotwali area, involving a young woman from the Hariharganj locality who was abducted six months ago by a youth named Ansari Ahmed. Following complaints from the family, the police had been interrogating the accused youth.
On December 8, the victim’s mother learned about her daughter and received information that Ansari Ahmed, residing in the Asothar Thana area, was forcibly converting her daughter’s religion and conducting a nikah in the presence of his co-religionists.
Subsequently, the victim’s mother reached the scene and opposed the marriage. In response, the woman was brutally beaten.
After the incident, the woman informed the police, who promptly arrived at the scene and arrested Maulvi Ali Baksh and Ansari Ahmed, who were involved in conducting the marriage. The police have also registered a case against nine individuals, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Dinesh Chandra Mishra, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), stated, “The Hindu woman was being coerced into a religious conversion, and her marriage was about to take place. Upon receiving the information, we reached the scene and arrested the accused Ansari Ahmed and the Maulvi. They have been sent to jail.”
