In a commendable move towards fulfilling the visionary goals set by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan. This ambitious scheme stands as a testament to the commitment to women’s empowerment, targeting the transformation of the lives of 40 lakh rural women entrepreneurs. Through generous financial assistance of Rs 35,000 each, this groundbreaking initiative strives to foster economic independence and create a lasting impact on the socio-economic landscape of Assam.

Visionary Goal
The primary goal of the scheme is to develop around 40 lakh women Self Help Group (SHG) members into Rural Micro entrepreneurs, commonly referred to as “Lakhpati Baideos.” The mission is to ensure an annual income of Rs 1 lakh for each member, contributing not only to their economic well-being but also fostering entrepreneurial spirit in rural communities.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scheme, applicants must adhere to specific criteria. General and OBC beneficiaries should not have more than three children, while SC/ST/Moran/Matak/Tea-tribes’ beneficiaries should limit their families to four children. Additionally, SHG members with girl children are encouraged to enrol them in school. The survival of trees planted under the Amrit Brikshya Andolan is also a prerequisite.

Application Process
The application process is straightforward. Interested women can obtain forms free of cost from the nearest Panchayat Office on specified dates. Photostat copies will not be accepted, emphasising the importance of genuine applications. As part of the submission, applicants need to include a business plan, prepared and supported by the government.

Scheme Benefits
The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan offers a phased approach to financial assistance:

– In the first year, every eligible member receives Rs10,000 upon fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
– Over the next two years, a total of Rs 25,000 is provided, with Rs 12,500 from the government and an equal amount from the bank.
– While the bank loan is refundable, the government’s support is non-refundable, ensuring sustainable assistance to women entrepreneurs.

Empowering Rural Women
This visionary scheme not only provides financial support but also empowers women to take charge of their economic destinies. By encouraging education for girl children, promoting responsible family planning, and supporting sustainable business plans, Assam’s MukhyaMantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan is a beacon of hope for rural women aspiring to become successful entrepreneurs.

This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to gender equality and economic empowerment, bringing about positive transformations in the lives of countless women in Assam.
