Jharkhand: Row erupts over Jail Superintendent transfer, opposition trains gun at Soren led coalition government

A tug of war erupted in Jharkhand after the opposition leaders alleged that the Ranchi's jail superintendent Besara Nishant Robert transfer to the Hazaribagh jail is an outcome of his actions pertaining to strictly implementing the rule of law at Birsa Munda central jail

A fresh row has erupted between the opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Hemant Soren led coalition government over transfer of Jail Superintendent of Ranchi, Besara Nishant Robert from Birsa Munda central jail to Hazaribagh.

The controversy over the transfer of the officer erupted after Besara was recently instructed to take charge of ‘Kara Prasikshan Sansthan’, Hazaribagh after spending just a short span of one month at Ranchi jail where many high profiles prisoners including those who have been investigated by the Enforcement Directorate are lodged.

The transfer of Besara triggered reactions from the opposition leaders including of main opposition BJP whose leaders started training guns at the Soren led government for allegedly punishing the officer for not following political instructions.

Taking to the X (Formerly known as Twitter), BJP state president Babu Lal Marandi in a series of tweet said that I had said it earlier that the transfer of the jail superintendent Besara is certain. He has been transferred in a month.

Earlier the BJP stalwart in another tweet while slamming the State government wrote that the action taken against Besara was bound to happen as he chose not to bow down to the Stone mafia who is called the mini CM.

Meanwhile speaking with the media, BJP spokesperson Pratul Sahdev said that days after Babu Lal Marandi speculated about it, Besara has been transferred. A conspiracy has been hatched against the son of Santhal tribes and raids were conducted on his jail on Christmas day.

Addressing the media, Sudesh Mahto, president of the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) asserted that it’s clear that those who will not work accordingly and not follow their instructions will be side-lined.

JMM denies allegations

Meanwhile, refuting the allegations, spokesperson of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Manoj Pandey said that there is rule of law in the State and action will be taken against those who are found to be indiscipline. I want to ask Babu Lal Marandi, how does he gets to know about the inside details of the Jail, added Pandey.

It is to be noted that earlier Nishant Besara was appointed as the Jail Superintendent at the Birsa Munda central jail of Ranchi on November 27. Besara was also reportedly offered an additional charge of Dhanbad Jail to which he allegedly refused.

Earlier inspections were conducted in as many as 7 jails including the Birsa Munda Central Jail of Ranchi on Monday where the officials took out sample of the foods being served to the prisoners alongside recording their statement about the facilities.

Later on the Jharkhand government while issuing a notification on Thursday, December 28 transferred the Ranchi jail superintendent, Besara Robert to Hazaribagh leading to sharp reaction from the opposition leaders. It is worth mentioning here that the tussle between the opposition leaders and the incumbent Soren government is at all-time high given the time left for the general assembly elections and the state assembly elections, scheduled to be held in a year’s time.
