Personnel of Bastar Fighter (a specialised counter-insurgency unit of the Chhattisgarh Police) sustained serious injuries after the Maoists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, December 29.

According to the reports, a joint team of security personnel was out on a combing operation near the Hiroli camp when the Maoists triggered a blast between the Hiroli and Kanwargaon villages, leaving a Jawan of the Bastar fighters injured.

The injured Jawan has been identified as Arvind Ekka, who sustained grave injuries in one of his leg. It’s been reported that after receiving initial treatment, the said personnel has been referred to Chhattisgarh’s capital, Raipur for better treatment, where he is being treated.

Back-to-back operations in Sukma

In other news security forces destroyed an impermanent Maoist camp and nabbed two extremists associated with the banned Maoist outfit in back-to-back operations launched in insurgency-hit Sukma district.

Personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were out on a combing operation where they destroyed an impermanent Maoist camp being operated in the Tumalpaad area of Sukma on Friday, December 29. It’s been reported that the security team also recovered daily use and other materials from the camp.

The development occurred a day after the security forces, in another operation launched in the Burdapara area of Sukma, nabbed a seasoned cadre of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). The arrested cadre was involved in various attacks on security forces and was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head.

The nabbed accused has been identified as Vanjam Hidma, who was associated with the Pamed area committee of the outlawed CPI Maoist. It’s been learnt that the security forces have also recovered a tiffin bomb weighing 5kg, Codex wire, 3 gelatin rods and other materials from the possession of Vanjam.

A separate team of security forces nabbed another cadre of the outlawed Maoist outfit from the jungles of Jaggawram under Bhejji Police station limits on Friday itself. The arrested cadre has been identified as Kawasi Pandu, a resident of Dabbakota, Sukma.

It has been learnt that the security forces have also recovered live cartridges along with other explosive materials, including detonators and codex wire on the inputs provided by Pandu.

Forces intensify search operations

It is to be noted that off late, the security forces have been running counter-insurgency operations across the Maoist-infested regions of the country leading to some outstanding achievements in containing the left-wing insurgency in regions such as Budha Pahad and Parasnath zone of Jharkhand and Swabhiman Anchal of Odisha.

Additionally, the growing presence of the security forces in the Maoist-infested Bastar division of Chhattisgarh has also led the proscribed Maoist outfit to confine in a smaller region than what they dominated in the mineral-rich State at its pinnacle.
