In a startling development on December 18, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Faiz Ahmed Khan of Kaimur district in Bihar faced suspension following allegations of sexual harassment lodged by a female inspector. The accused, serving as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Mohania, reportedly propositioned the victim, promising career advancement and promotion to the rank of Station House Officer (SHO) in exchange for a physical relationship.
The victim, stationed in the Kaimur area, filed a complaint against Khan, accusing him of regularly sending lewd messages on WhatsApp. Despite her subsequent transfer, the harassment persisted, with Khan allegedly pressuring her to engage in illicit relations.
Evidence supporting the victim’s claims was presented, leading Superintendent of Police Lalit Mohan Sharma to form an inquiry committee. The Internal Monitoring Committee, chaired by female police station in-charge Poonam Kumari and comprising Senior Deputy Collector Savita Kumari, Sub Inspectors Shraddha Suman and Shubhangi, Constable Sandhya Kumari, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) College Professor Seema Patel, reviewed the evidence and obtained statements from both parties.
The accused, Khan, was known to erase WhatsApp conversations and messages to avoid detection. However, the committee’s final investigative report confirmed the veracity of the victim’s allegations.
Subsequently, Superintendent Lalit Mohan Sharma forwarded the report to Shahabad range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Naveen Chandra Jha, who recommended Khan’s suspension. The recommendation included initiating departmental action against Khan and transferring him out of Mohania. The government intervened, leading to Faiz Ahmed Khan’s suspension. A notification to this effect has been released by the Government of Bihar’s Ministry of Home Affairs.
It is worth noting that this incident follows a similar case in September, where a woman constable accused Inspector Rajkumar of sexual harassment in the Bhabhua district of Kaimur, leading to his suspension.
