Geert Wilders, who called Nupur Sharma heroic, registers a surprise win in Netherlands

Far-right leader Geert Wilders secured a decisive victory in the Netherlands elections, positioning his anti-EU party, the Party for Freedom, as the leading force with 37 seats in the Dutch parliament. Wilders had previously defended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma in 2022 over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad

Dutch far-right leader, Geert Wilders has won a massive election in the Dutch polls setting him on course to form a coalition and become the Netherlands next Prime Minister, leaders from across Europe are congratulating the PPV (Freedom Party) leader. Wilders has so far won 37 seats in parliament, more than doubling his share from the last election and outstripping opponents, reports France24.

Wilders ran on an anti-European Union campaign, which will undoubtedly arouse concern in Brussels, with calls to follow the UK with their Brexit vote, and similarly follow suit with a so-called Nexit (Netherlands’s exit) vote, that will remove the country from the European trading bloc.

60-year-old Prime Minister of Hungary, Orban Victor has also congratulated Wilders, who has run on an anti-immigration sentiment. Victor shared his congratulatory thoughts on X stating, “The winds of change are here! Congratulations to@geertwilderspvvon winning the Dutch elections!”

Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders had called Nupur Sharma heroic and had described Muhammad’s ideology is offensive and abusive

Taking to Twitter, the Dutch lawmaker said Islamic nations should be criticised as they persecute minorities and disrespect human rights like no other nation does. He also said Islamic nations have no democracy, and there is neither freedom nor the rule of law in Islamic countries.

He called Nupur Sharma heroic and said Muhammad’s ideology was offensive and abusive.

“Don’t listen to the hypocrites. Islamic nations have no democracy, no rule of law, no freedom. They persecute minorities and disrespect human rights like no one else. THEY should be criticized! The ideology of Muhammad is offensive and abusive, not the heroic Nupur Sharma!” Geert Wilders said on Twitter.

Earlier, Wilders came out in support of Nupur Sharma’s comments on Muhammad’s marriage and life and advised Indians to stand with Nupur Sharma. He also said appeasement will never work and makes things worse.

Nupur Sharma has been receiving rape and death threats from Islamists ever since the fake news peddler and Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair twisted Nupur Sharma’s comments on social media with an 85-second video.

Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders has revealed that he has been receiving death threats from Muslims for supporting Nupur Sharma’s comments on Muhammad’s life.

The Netherlands lawmaker said on Twitter that he has been receiving death threats from Muslims for supporting Nupur Sharma. He also said Nupur spoke the truth about Muhammad’s life and slammed Muslims, saying they have no morals.

“I receive many death threats now from Muslims who want to kill me for supporting #NupurSharma who spoke the truth and nothing but the truth about Muhammad and Aisha. My message to them is: go to hell. You have no morals. We stand for the truth. We stand for freedom,” Wilders said on Twitter.

Wilders is likely to become a second far-right leader in a top European GDP country, as the Dutch lurch to the far-right comes after Italy elected Giorgia Meloni as prime minister, France24 reported.  Deputy Italian Prime Minister Matteo Salvini was also quick to express his support for the Dutch far-right nationalist.

Salvini stated on his X page, “Congratulations to our friend@geertwilderspvv, leader of the PVV and historic ally of the League, for this extraordinary electoral victory.” The success of Wilder portrays a significantly evolving European political landscape.

Wilders’ ascent to prominence in Dutch politics raises questions about the future trajectory of the country’s policies, particularly concerning immigration and its relationship with the European Union. As he explores potential coalition options to secure a majority, Wilders’ influence is poised to reshape the political landscape in the Netherlands. The international community closely watches these developments and their potential implications for the region and beyond.
