Congress party is known to confuse the people from the real issues. Karnataka’s CM Siddiramaih supports the caste census report, while Dy CM DK Shivkumar opposes the same caste census methodology. Amid this, the chairman of the Backward Classes Commission, Jayaprakash Hegde, stated that he could not finish the report on time because a portion of the survey’s document was missing.
Under Siddaramaiah’s chief ministership, H Kantharaju, the former chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, carried out the Socio-Economic and Education Survey, also known as the Caste Census, in 2015. However, for a variety of reasons, the survey’s results were withheld.
Jayaprakash Hegde’s term is expected to be extended by CM Siddiramaiah for an additional two months until the completion of the report, as a result of the timeline not being met.
Political choices and state government initiatives will undoubtedly be influenced by the caste census’s quantitative results. Vokkaliags and Lingayats, the two dominant communities with around 12% – 15% share in Karnataka, have, however, voiced their disapproval of the survey, calling it unscientific, and they have demanded that it be rejected and that a new survey be carried out.
Even the current president, Mallikarjun Karge, previously opposed taking on the caste issue, but the Congress has historically shown no interest in doing so. However, the party has since changed its stance. It appears that the Congress party is attempting to split Hindus along caste lines and keep them within their fold for a little while longer in order to conceal their government’s failures since taking office, after engaging in lengthy religious politics.
