Adhivakta Parishad to host legal conclave 2023; three new criminal law bills to be discussed in detail

Adhivakta Parishad, national level organisation of lawyers, is all set to conduct its Annual Legal Conclave this year on October 28, 2023. This year it will be centred around the three new criminal law bills that were introduced by the Government earlier this year, namely Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita, 2023; Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, 2023; Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023

The Legal Conclave 2023, will be inaugurated at the NDMC Convention Centre. The inauguration ceremony will be graced by prominent personalities from the legal arena, including HMJ Rajesh Bindal (Supreme Court of India), HMJ Subramoniun Prasad (Delhi High Court), HMJ C Hari Shankar (Delhi High Court), ASG Balbir Singh, ASG Vikramjit Banerjee, Prof (Dr) GS Bajpai (Vice Chancellor, NLU, Delhi) and Senior Advocate Jayant Mehta. They will offer their insights into the legal, social, and political implications of these bills. In addition, several policymakers and lawmakers who have been instrumental in drafting the legislation will be present to answer questions and engage in constructive dialogue.

The legal conclave aims to provide a balanced and informative platform for all stakeholders, including legal professionals, activists, and concerned citizens, to understand the potential impact of these bills. It will also offer opportunities for those in attendance to voice their concerns, ask questions, and suggest amendments or modifications.

The first session will focus on Cr.P.C. 1973 and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita 2023. This bill aims to amend and modernise existing laws related to cybercrimes and online harassment. It has garnered significant attention for its potential impact on issues like online privacy, digital security, and the prosecution of cybercriminals.

The second session will focus on Indian Penal Code, 1860 and Bharatiya Nyay Samhita 2023 which is aimed at reforming the criminal justice system. This bill introduces changes to sentencing guidelines, bail procedures, and the treatment of offenders. It seeks to address concerns about fairness and equity within the legal system.

The final session will focus on Evidence Act 1872 and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill 2023. This bill proposes an overhaul of laws governing white-collar crimes and financial misconduct. It is anticipated to have significant ramifications for corporate governance and the regulation of financial institutions.

As the nation awaits the outcome of these proposed criminal law bills, the legal conclave provides an invaluable opportunity to understand, debate, and contribute to the shaping of the country’s legal landscape.
