Delhi: Asif, Mehraj killed cab driver Bijendra to steal his car; nabbed after video of him being dragged went viral

Two individuals, identified as Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Mehraj from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, have been apprehended in connection with the widely circulated video depicting a man being dragged by a car in Delhi.

Special Commissioner of Police (L&O), Sagar Preet Hooda, stated that during the initial interrogation, the accused disclosed that they initially boarded the taxi as passengers. However, after some time, they proceeded to threaten and forcibly remove the taxi driver from the vehicle with the intent of stealing it.

Sharing the video of the incident on social media platform X, news agency ANI wrote, “A viral video shows the body of a man being dragged by a car in Delhi. The body of an unidentified male with injuries was found near the service road of NH8 on 10th October. The person was identified as a taxi driver with residence in Haryana’s Faridabad. Case registered under sections 302 and 201 IPC, probe underway: Delhi Police ”


On October 11, following the circulation of a video depicting a man being dragged by a car in Delhi, the police discovered the body of a 43-year-old man with injuries near the service road of National Highway-8 (NH8).

According to Delhi police, the viral video captured the incident on the National Highway-8 near Mahipalpur. The deceased was identified as Bijender, a resident of Faridabad, Haryana.

Providing details about the case, the police stated, “On October 10, at approximately 11:20 PM, a PCR call was received at Vasant Kunj North Police Station reporting the discovery of an unidentified male body with injuries near the service road of NH8.”

Upon receiving the information, the police promptly arrived at the scene and recovered the body. Following an investigation, the body was identified as that of Bijender, a 43-year-old taxi driver residing in Faridabad.

Subsequently, the police filed a case under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Vasant Kunj North Police Station.

Reports indicate that Bijender was driving his Swift Dzire taxi in the Mahipalpur area when the assailants attempted to steal his vehicle. The last contact he had with his wife was around 7:30 PM, when he informed her he was picking up his first passengers of the evening. Both accused, Mehraj and Asif, have a criminal record with approximately 15 cases registered against them.

Mehraj and Asif had posed as passengers and boarded Bijender’s cab in Saket, before assaulting him near the Delhi cantonment area.
