Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt General KT Parnaik (Retd.)said that the international border of Arunachal Pradesh in the Taksing Sector is sensitive and strategically important for the security of the nation. “He exhorted the forces to be alert and uphold the gallant traditions of the Indian Armed Forces in guarding sensitive borders,” an official statement said.

The Governor, who had earlier visited Taksing as the General Officer Commanding 4 Corp in 2008, encouraged the personnel to maintain physical fitness and sound mental alertness.” He shared modern-day security design and steps with the personnel to keep the border safe and secure,” an official statement said.

The Governor advised the officers and personnel to maintain cordial relations with the border villagers in the Taksing area and provide them assistance in times of need and emergency.

The officers and personnel of Rajputana Rifles, Garhwal Rifles, Arunachal Scouts, 340 field regiment and Indo-Tibetan Border Police were present in the interaction.

AFSPA extended in parts of Arunachal Pradesh

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in parts of Arunachal Pradesh for another six months.

The Central Government in the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (28 of 1958) had declared the Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering the State of Assam as ‘disturbed area’ vide Notification S.O.1422(E) dated March 24, 2023. And whereas a further review of the law and order situation in the state of Arunachal Pradesh has been undertaken,” the notification read.

“Now, therefore, Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts in Arunachal Pradesh and the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering the State of Assam, are declared as ‘disturbed area’ under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 for a period of six months with effect from October 1, 2022, unless withdrawn earlier,” it added.
AFSPA gives armed forces the power to maintain public order in “disturbed areas”.
