Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on September 29 reviewed the preparations for the one-hour ‘Swachhata Shramdaan program’ scheduled to be held on October 1 in the State.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called upon the people of the State to pay ‘Swachhanjali’ (cleanliness tribute) to Bapu on the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

“On the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of cleanliness to the nation, a 154-hour cleanliness campaign is being run in all the urban bodies under the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) fortnight. For the success of this campaign, Swachh Sarathi Club is being developed and programs are being organised in universities/schools. The city’s intersections and bus stops are being cleaned. Public participation should be increased in this important campaign,” an official statement said.

“In order to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Garbage-free India’ vision, every resident of the State should participate in 1 hour of cleanliness volunteering on October 1,” it added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this collective effort will be a ‘Swachhanjali’ to Mahatma Gandhi on the evening of his birth anniversary.

“Every resident of the State must contribute to ensure cleanliness in his/her surroundings. Public awareness should be spread to join this one-hour cleanliness volunteering program on October 1,” CM Yogi Adityanath said.

“On October 1, special programs should be organised in all urban bodies and gram panchayats for one hour of cleanliness volunteering. For the success of this volunteering effort, a special meeting of all the urban bodies, gram panchayats, area panchayats and district panchayats of the State should be convened on September 30 and a proposal for the cleanliness volunteering program should be passed. All necessary preparations should be made in your area including marking the venue for the program on October 1,” he added.

UP CM said that volunteering is a civic duty and citizens will have to develop cleanliness as a habit.

“There should be the participation of public representatives, businessmen, NGOs, socio-cultural organisations, self-help groups, RWAs, and civil organisations in this program of cleanliness volunteering. All district-level officials should be present in their respective districts on this day. Sanitation workers should be publicly honoured on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

UP CM said the success of this cleanliness volunteering campaign depends on its continuity.

“In the coming days, there will be idol immersions of Goddess Durga and Chhath Puja celebrations. Therefore, this process of cleanliness should be maintained continuously. A significant portion of urban waste consists of harmful plastics. In addition to efforts to raise awareness against their use, strict enforcement should be carried out. Ensure enforcement of the ban on banned polythene,” he said.
