Kuki Zo organisation NAMTA join hand with Pro-Khalistani radicals in Canada; Union Home Ministry urged to take action

Ever since the unrest started in Manipur on May 3, a section of media, specially the foreign funded media, and certain organisations are trying to portray the violence as a religious cleansing without knowing the ground reality.

Several foreign-funded media and other organisations are building narratives that Hindu (Meitei) community is up against the Christian (Tribal) in Manipur and trying to uproot them from the hills. However, on ground, the reality is different. The clash in Manipur is confined to Meitei and Kuki communities only.

Four Naga-inhabited districts in Manipur namely Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati and Tamenglong are completely peaceful amid the violence in Manipur. In fact, the Naga community (a major tribal and Christian population of Manipur) recently alleged that armed Kuki militants are repeatedly provoking the Naga population. The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of Naga civil society in Manipur, condemned the act of harassment of innocent civilians by armed Kuki militants in the state. TNL said the unexpected and unwarranted act of stopping and threatening innocent commuters and passengers by fully armed Kuki Militants is unacceptable.

Not only that, the Kuki militants also threatened the workers involved in restoration and repairing work along the Imphal-Ukhrul route. But still some organisations are relentlessly working to build a narrative of atrocity against minorities in Manipur across the globe.

Such an organisation is US based North America Manipur Tribal Association (NAMTA). This organisation is allegedly building anti India and anti Hindu narrative in America and across the globe since the beginning of the ethnic clashes in Manipur. NMATA is now joining hands with pro Khalistani radicals to spread hate narratives against the Indian government and Hindu community of India. Recently the president of the Canada chapter of NAMTA Lien Gangte was seen in a Canada based Surrey Gurudwara and he was speaking on so-called minority atrocities in India (video of which has gone viral on social media). Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar was the president of the Surrey Gurdwara.

Gangte even urged the Canada government to condemn the so-called human rights violation in India and the government of India on this. The NAMTA president was seen seeking pro Khalistani support to run protest rallies in America. By far it has been clear that Canada has become a hub of anti India elements, specially the pro khalistani radicals. But the linked up between the Kuki Zo organisation and pro Khalistani radicals in Canada is surely a threat for internal security of the country.

The organisation (NAMTA) is also building narratives that targeted atrocities are going on against the Christians in Manipur and only the homes of the tribals in the hills were torched in the state. But in reality, both the communities in the state (Meitei and Kuki) are equally affected by the months-long violence. NAMTA in their website published articles on atrocity against the Christians in Manipur and even tried to influence American politicians by this. The organisation is spreading fake narratives that the Meitei led state government and state police is patronising the atrocity against Kuki Zo community in the state.

Civil society organisations in Manipur are reacting sharply to the alleged link up between Kuki Zo organisation and pro Khalistani radicals in Canada. The NAMTA is also raising funds in foreign lands in the name of aid to Kuki victims in Manipur. Achit Singh, a civil society organisation leader in Imphal, said that these funds need to be checked properly before it reaches Manipur. If these funds are diverted to Kuki terrorist groups, it could be used against the country and peace and stability will be damaged again in Manipur. Singh urged the union home ministry to properly check the activities of NAMTA as it has joined hands with anti India elements in foreign soil.
