The Delhi Police authorities have geared up to ensure round-the-clock security arrangements in the national capital during the G20 Summit scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10.
“At Shahdra 10 pickets are in place. Forces from outside have come here. Our security is present round the clock. Foot march and patrolling is happening regularly. We are closing all market areas timely,” Shahdra DCP Incharge Harsh Indora said while speaking to ANI.
“All kinds of preventive actions against miscreants are being taken. Regular checking is being done. We are carrying out regular combing operations at the Yamuna Khadar area because it comes near the Raj Ghat venue. Tear gas practice was also done today…,” he said.
Earlier in the day, an anti-sabotage mock drill was conducted by the Indian Army ahead of the G20 Summit in Delhi.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is monitoring the weather round the clock and will issue current weather and forecast information for different locations of Delhi from September 7 ahead of the crucial Summit.
“In view of the ensuing G20 Summit at New Delhi during September 8-10 2023, IMD is monitoring the weather round the clock. It will issue current weather & forecast information for different locations of Delhi since the September 7, 2023 morning,” the IMD said.
Moreover, it stated that in addition to the existing automatic weather system (AWS) network of IMD, an additional AWS has been installed near the venue of the G20 Summit to provide real-time live weather data (Air Temperature, Humidity, Wind Speed and Direction and Rainfall) at every 15 minutes interval along with daily maximum and minimum temperatures.
Similar live weather information will be available for other nine important locations of Delhi, covering major tourist and historical places, such as IGI Airport, New Delhi Railway station, Chandini Chowk, Akshardham Temple, Bahai/Lotus Temple, Qutab Minar, Redfort/Rajghat, Delhi University and Lodhi Road (Lodhi Garden), the weather office said.
India is all set to host the G20 Summit in New Delhi from September 9-10. World leaders will arrive in New Delhi to attend the G20 Summit. The Summit will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Notably, India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 last year and about 200 meetings related to G20 were organised in 60 cities across the country.
JNU administration issues circular
In view of the restrictions imposed across the national capital due to the G20 Summit, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration on September 6 issued a circular saying that only the North Gates of the campus will remain open from September 7 to 11.
“In view of the restrictions imposed by the Govt of NCT of Delhi and overall security concerns, only North Gate (Main Gate) of the JNU Campus remains open from 09:00 PM on September 7, 2023 to 06:00 AM September 11, 2023. Other gates will remain closed during this period,” the JNU circular undersigned by Naveen Yadav, Chief Security Officer, read.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Government on September 5 issued a gazette notification on traffic restrictions imposed across the national capital in view of the upcoming G20 Summit.
According to the gazette notification, all types of goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, interstate buses and local city buses shall not operate on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road and inside Pragati Maidan Tunnel from 00:00 hours on the intervening night of September 7 and 8 to 23:59 hours on September 10. Goods vehicles carrying Essential Commodities such as milk, vegetables, fruits, medical supplies and others having valid ‘No Entry Permissions’ will be allowed to enter Delhi, it stated.
The entire area of New Delhi District will be considered as “Controlled Zone-I” from 5 AM on September 8 to 23:59 hours on September 10, the notification stated.
The entire area inside Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be considered a “Regulated Zone” from 5 AM on September 8 to 23:59 hours on September 10.
Only bonafide residents, authorised vehicles, emergency vehicles and vehicles of passengers travelling to the Airport, Old Delhi and New Delhi Railway Stations will be allowed to ply on the road network of New Delhi District, the notification read.
No TSR and taxi will be allowed to enter or ply in the New Delhi District from 5 AM on September 9 to 23:59 hours on September 10.
All types of commercial vehicles, including buses that are already present in Delhi shall be allowed to move on Ring Road and road network beyond Ring Road towards the borders of Delhi, the notification stated.
