Guwahati: In another crackdown on drug peddlers, one lady drug smuggler was arrested by Cachar police while recovering the contraband. Based on secret information, Cachar police conducted a raid and seized heroin weighing 1.3 kg worth Rs 7 crore from the residence of the arrested drug smuggler. Police seized the heroin filled in 100 soap boxes weighing 1.3 kg from her residence. Police sources said that the heroin was illegally smuggled from Manipur.

It should be mentioned that on August 24, four drug smugglers hailing from Manipur’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts were arrested in Assam’s Cachar district while they were smuggling drugs. Cachar police arrested Mamang Haokip (36), Haobem Haokip (30), Henboi Haokip (39) of Churachandpur district and Gogou Paite (30) of Kangpokpi in Manipur. The drug smugglers travelled from Churachandpur in a Bolero car through Mizoram and entered Cachar from the Dholai area where they were arrested by the Cachar police.

Notably, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts were worst affected in the recent Manipur violence. Many civil society organisations alleged the narco terrorism nexus had a big role in the Manipur violence. Drugs smuggled from Myanmar are transported to different parts of India from Churachandpur and Kangpokpi areas. The arrest of 4 drug smugglers from Manipur in Assam with a huge quantity of drugs suggested the same.

On the other hand Heroin weighing over 3 kg was seized and four persons from Assam were arrested in two separate operations in Mizoram. The Excise and Narcotics Department of Mizoram seized 1.31 kg of heroin worth Rupees 7 crore at Tuirial near Aizawl on August 25. Two drug smugglers from Cachar district of Assam were arrested and a truck that was transporting the drugs was seized. The arrested drugs smugglers were identified as Ali Hussain Laskar (40) and Sebul Haque Barbhuiya (28).

In Saitual district, 2 kg of heroin worth Rupees over 10 crores was seized on 28th August and two drug smugglers from Karimganj district of Assam were arrested by police. The arrested persons were identified as Bokul Uddin (23) and Sabil Ali (24). Mizoram police said that the seized heroin was smuggled from Myanmar.

Meanwhile, In a joint operation, Assam Rifles and Kumarghat Police Station in Tripura apprehended three drug smugglers and seized heroin worth Rs 2.25 crore from their possession. According to a statement by Assam Rifles, based on credible information, the operation party apprehended drug smugglers Shiplu Ahmed (27), Maruf Ahmed (28) and Abidul Hoque (24), all from Karimganj district of Assam along with 558 gram of heroin from the general area Kumarghat, Unakoti District in Tripura.
