Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on August 13, 2023, changed his profile picture on his social media handles to ‘Tiranga’ (Indian flag) ahead of Independence Day celebrations in the country.

Moreover, PM Modi also urged the citizens to change the Display Picture (DP) of their social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort.

Earlier on August 11 2023, PM Modi urged the people of India to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement from August 13 to 15 this year.

PM Modi’s Remarks

PM Modi tweeted, “The Tiranga symbolises the spirit of freedom and national unity. Every Indian has an emotional connection with the Tricolour, and it inspires us to work harder to further national progress.”

“In the spirit of the #HarGharTiranga movement, let us change the DP of our social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort which will deepen the bond between our beloved country and us,” PM Modi tweeted.

“I urge you all to take part in the Har Ghar Tiranga movement between 13th to 15th August. Upload your photos with the Tiranga,” he added in his tweet.

All about Har Ghar Tiranga

The Har Ghar Tiranga is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage all Indian citizens to bring the Tiranga (Indian Tricolour) home and hoist it to mark the 75th Indian Independence Day.

PM Modi said that the Indian flag symbolises the spirit of freedom and national unity and urged the people to upload their photographs with the Tiranga on the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ website.

Bringing the flag home collectively as a nation in the 75th year of independence thus becomes symbolic and not only an act of personal connection to the Tiranga but also an embodiment of our commitment to nation-building.

The main idea behind the campaign is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.

As the government launched the Har Ghar Tiranga, the Ministry of Home Affairs amended the flag code of India and declared that the Indian Tricolour could even be flown during the night, which was previously allowed only between sunrise and sunset.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

The Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is a government initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of this people, culture and achievements. The official journey commenced on March 12, 2023, and will end post on August 15, 2023.

There are five key pillars, namely struggle for independence, ideas of 75 years, actions of 75 years, achievements of 75 years and resolutions of 75 years.

Independence Day Celebrations (2023)

India is gearing up to celebrate its 77th independence day on August 15, 2023. The main theme of the celebrations is “Nations First. Always First.” The current president of the Republic of India, Droupadi Murmu, will address the nation on the eve of India’s Independence Day.

Meanwhile, around 1,800 special guests from all over India will be attending the Independence Day Flag hoisting by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Red Fort.

A special delegation from the United States of America will also be present when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address all Indian citizens from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. This practice was initiated by Jawaharlal Nehru and was duly followed by all the succeeding prime ministers in the history of independent India.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Delhi police have stepped up checks and security measures across the National Capital, police officials said on August 11, 2023
