The Muharram processions in West Delhi’s Nangloi turned violent as the Muslim mob pelted stones at the police during the Muharram procession. According to reports in the media, the situation turned violent after a group led by one of the organisers of the Tazia (Muharram) was refused to deviate from the route that was assigned to them to take out the procession.

The agitated muslim mob attacked the police force and the common people and also torched the vehicles. In order to bring the situation under control, the police baton charged at the unruly muslim mob. However, it has been reported that more than dozen policemen suffered injuries.

Meanwhile earlier on July 28, Delhi Police Special CP Dependra Pathak had spoken to the media about the late night patrolling in the Jama Masjid area ahead of the Muharram procession. He had said, “The force will be deployed everywhere and all arrangements have been made by the Delhi Police ahead of the Muharram procession so that the procession is taken out with peace and the law and order is also maintained.”
