Imphal: At least 27 people including two journalists and two women and minora are missing in the Imphal valley districts in Manipur. In seven valley districts of Manipur at least 27 persons are missing during the last three months.These include two journalists, two minors and two women. The two missing journalists of local media are Atom Samarendra Singh (47) and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh (48).
These 27 persons are reported missing in May, June and July from Imphal West, Imphal East, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Kakching districts.
The missing cases were reported at various police stations by the families and relatives. The ages of the missing persons ranged between 17 years to 47 years.
Exodus of Meiteis from Mizoram
Meanwhile more than 800 Meiteis have left Mizoram due to the statement issued by the ex militant group of Mizoram and massive solidarity march by NGO coordination committee in support of Kukis in Manipur.
Mizoram police said that till July 25th, more than 600 Meitei community people left Aizawl. The Metei people left the state for fear of being attacked after an ex-militant organisation issued an advisory.
They also felt “insecure” due to the solidarity march organised by the NGO coordination committee on July 25. However, Meitei people who have reached Cachar district in Assam or Manipur claim that the Meitei people continue to leave Mizoram out of fear and insecurity.
There are still over a thousand Meiteis staying in Aizawl, mostly teachers, students and workers.
Civil society organisations express solidarity with Kuki-Zo ethnic community
On 25th July, NGO Coordination Committee, a conglomerate of five major civil society organisations, including the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), organised massive protest rallies in different parts of the state expressing solidarity with the Kuki-Zo ethnic community in Manipur.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, his deputy Tawnluia, ministers and legislators also took part in the protest rally in Aizawl.
It should be mentioned that ex militant group Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA) on July 22 had served as an advisory to the Meiteis to leave Mizoram for their own safety.
