Narayanpur: A man was allegedly killed by Naxalites on suspicion of being a police informer in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, police said on July 23, 2023. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Narayanpur Hemsagar Sidar, the Naxals killed a village man after suspecting him to be a police informer in Village Rohtad of the Narayanpur district. The ASP further informed that the information about the incident was received by the police at the Chhotedongar police station limits in Narayanpur district.

“Information was received in Chhotedongar under district Narayanpur, that Naxals killed a person named Sukka Singh Kachalam in village Rohtad July 22 late night. In this regard, the police verified the information, and after the verification, it was verified that Sukka Singh Kachalam was killed by Naxalites after they took him to Rohtad forest late at night,” said the ASP.

The Official further said that in this matter, a pamphlet issued by the Naxals of Amdai Area Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) was also recovered near the incident site in which the Naxals accused Sukka Singh of acting as an agent to send the villagers out and alleged him of being a police informant.

The Official also said that the post-mortem proceedings of the deceased have been completed and a case has been registered against the Naxals in the Chhotedongar police station.

ASP stated, “The post-mortem of the deceased have been completed and a case has been registered against the Naxals in the Chhotedongar police station under various sections of the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two Naxal cadres, including a woman, in connection with an encounter that took place in 2019 near Tiriya village in Chhattisgarh, claiming the lives of six Naxals and one civilian, the agency said on July 22.

The arrested accused, identified as Kandula Sirisha alias Sirisha alias Padmakka and Duddu Prabhakar alias Duddu alias Ajay were working for different frontal organisations of CPI (Maoist) or Naxal, said the NIA.

The duo were arrested on Friday after extensive investigations and search operations, taking the total number of arrests in the Tiriya encounter case (also known as the RK Dairy case) to six.

Earlier on July 21, 2023, another incident of killing of forest trekker Deva Prajapati occurred in Dauna village under Netarhat police station of Latehar in Jharkhand when around a dozen armed cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the CPI (Maoist) barged into the house of Deva Prajapati. The Naxals beat him to death, alleging him for being a police informer.

Deva Prajapati was working as a daily wage trekker at Palamu Tiger Reserve on a contractual basis, and he was beaten to death on the intervening night of July 19. His work involved patrolling the forest region of the Bareysanr range.

Maoists Issue Warning to the Locals

According to the reports, after beating Prajapati to death, the Maoist also warned the locals on the walls of the deceased house. The Maoists wrote that those who worked as an informer would be killed. The police, on the other hand, are speculating the involvement of the Chotu Khaiwar gang in the brutal murder and have initiated a probe into the matter.

Surge in targeted killings of Civilians by the Maoists in border areas of Chattisgarh

It is to be noted that the Maoist-affected regions bordering Chattisgarh have already witnessed a surge in the targeted killings of civilians, as the Ultras have so far killed more than two dozen civilians in different regions of the tribal-dominated state in the last year alone. Most of the civilians who have been killed so far by the Maoist hailed from the marginalise sections of the society. They were identified as soft targets by Maoists and the objective was to instill a sense of fear among the locals.

It is pertinent to mention here that most of the civilians who the Maoist brutally murdered in Chhattisgarh were alleged to be working as an informer by the Ultras, striking a resemblance with the recent targeted killing in Netarhat.

Telangana state committee member held with associate

In another development related to the Maoists, a joint team of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) and Telangana police nabbed two cadres of the banned CPI Maoist in Cherla of Bhadradri Kothagudem on July 20. As per the reports, the Cherla police, along with the CRPF, during a vehicle check exercise, arrested a senior Maoist leader and member of the Telangana state committee of the CPI Maoist, Thota Seetaramaiha along with his companion as P Raj Kumar, near Cherla police station.
