Agartala: Three Myanmar Rohingya women intruders, along with two children, were arrested in Tripura by Railway Police on July 10. The Rohingya team had entered India from Bangladesh and were about to board a train for Kashmir via West Bengal, Police said in Agartala.
Acting on a confirmed tip-off, a team of Kumarghat Police Station led by Inspector Sankar Saha conducted a search in the Kumarghat Railway station area in the Unakoti district of Tripura.
Three Rohingya women waiting in the station to board a Kolkata-bound train were suspected by the Police. On the preliminary inquiry, the women failed to provide the basic details. The Police detained the three women and two children.
During the investigation, it was found that they had entered Indian territory without any relevant documents through the Tilla Bazar area in Kailashahar in Tripura on July 10 morning. The Rohingya women revealed that they were planning to travel to Sealdah Railway station in West Bengal, and from there, they had plans to travel to Jammu & Kashmir. Their Bangladesh handler instructed them to follow the travel route, and in Jammu & Kashmir, one Indian handler was supposed to receive them and provide a job, police sources said.
Subsequently, the Rohingya women were arrested by Police. The arrested women were identified as Anjuma (26), Ayesh Begum (22) and Nunaha (20), all from Rohingya refugee camps in Cox Bazar in Bangladesh.
Five Rohingya arrested in May
On May 18, 2023, Five Rohingya intruders were arrested at Dharmanagar Railway station in North Tripura district. The Rohingya intruders group illegally crossed the Indo-Bangla international border.
They were suspected by Railway Police when the group attempted to board a train to reach Jammu & Kashmir. One Indian Muslim broker helped them to cross the border and arranged railway tickets for the group.
According to Tripura Police, six Rohingya arrived in Dharmanagar from Bangladesh on May 18. Out of these, five were arrested by Police and one Rohingya woman fled with the Indian broker.
The arrested were identified as Aman Ullah, Mohammad Shah, Mohammad Ehsas, Rozina Begum, and Nur Kalima. It should be mentioned that BSF in Tripura arrested 59 Rohingya and 150 Bangladeshi Nationals in 2022 alone.
11 Rohingya arrested in June
On June 16 2023, Tripura Police arrested 11 Rohingya who entered Indian territory from Bangladesh in the Kadamtala area on the Assam-Tripura border. Police said that based on specific information, they conducted a search at the Naka checking point near the Assam-Tripura border and arrested the Rohingya group.
According to Police, the Rohingya group rented three vehicles and headed towards the Assam-Tripura border. Their plan was to reach Karimganj district in Assam. The group was helped by their Indian handler, who promised them rail tickets from Badarpur station to New Delhi. The Rohingya were identified as Rahman Ali, Jannatara, Khaleda Begum, Majuma Begum, Karima Begum, Abbas Howlader, Al-Hafiz, Mohammad Alam, Kumira Bibi, Farida Begum and Shafela Begum.
Three Rohingya arrested in March
On March 22 2023, Three Rohingya Muslim men were arrested from Dharmanagar Railway station. The three Rohingya were preparing to travel to Delhi. The arrested Rohingya were identified as Mohammad Naseer, Mohammad Ismail, and Rahimullah. The group entered Tripura on March 18 from Bangladesh. Police sources said that they left Myanmar in January 2023 and spent a couple of months in Bangladesh. With the help of a Bangladeshi handler, they entered India and were planning to travel to the National capital, where they were promised a job by the handler.
33 Rohingya arrested in February in Agartala
On February 19, 2023, 12 Rohingya intruders were arrested, along with their Indian handler from Agartala station, Railway Police said.
The Rohingya group entered India in Tripura from Bangladesh, where they stayed in Cox’s Bazar camp. The Rohingya group were waiting to board the Kanchenjunga Express to go to Kolkata. It should be mentioned that 33 Rohingya were arrested at Agartala Railway station in February 2023.
68 Rohingya arrested in the Assam-Tripura border
On February 2 2023, the Railway Protection Force detained seven Rohingya children at Dharmanagar Railway station in Tripura. The group includes a boy and six girls who were detained by the Railway Police. A total of 68 Rohingya Muslims were arrested in Tripura and along the Assam-Tripura border in 15 days.
