Manipur: 2207 state forces deployed for providing security to farmers; 33 bunkers of militants destroyed

Imphal: The Government of Manipur has deployed over 2207 state forces, comprising Manipur Rifles, IRB, and police, to provide security for farming activities in various districts of the state. The decision was taken in the Unified Command meeting chaired by CM N Biren Singh on 3rd July.

Briefing the media on the security arrangements for the farmers of the state, Inspector General of Police IK Muivah said that specific security arrangements have been made for farming activities. Security protection for VVIPs and VIPs has been reduced to certain limits in order to provide security for farmers engaged in farming activities.

Around 2207 state forces, comprising Manipur Rifles, IRB, and Police, have been put on reserve only to provide security for farming activities in various districts. The district superintendent of police will alotte the forces as per the requirement of the farmers.

As per the arrangements, 822 state forces have been deployed in Imphal west; 298 in Imphal east; 236 in Bishnupur; 147 in Thoubal; 204 in Kakching; 300 in Churachandpur; and 200 in Kangpokpi. Police personnel killed in cross firing in Bishnupur district

A police personnel were killed in the troubled torn state following the intermittent firing between armed militants and security forces at the Kangvai-Awang Lekhai area on 7th July night in Bishnupur district. The deceased personnel, identified as Pukhram Ranbir alias Naoba, a personnel of Bishnupur District Police, was reportedly shot dead during the cross-firing.

Floral tributes were paid to the deceased police personnel on 8th July at the 1st Manipur Rifles battalion in Imphal in the presence of Ministers and MLAs, top officials of the state, and the Central Para Military Force.Later, his body was taken to his native village of Moirang for performing last rites.

Firing at Phougakchao Ikhai and Kwakta:

On 7th July at about 1am, suspected armed miscreants fired towards Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta area in Bishnupur District in which 1 (one) civilian got killed and another civilian got injured. However, Police and security forces rushed and repelled the miscreants. It is learnt that 5 (five) suspected armed miscreants sustained bullet injuries out of which 2(two) succumbed to their injuries.

Search Operations by Security Forces:

During the last 24 hours, State Police and Central forces conducted massive search operation in the vulnerable and fringe areas like Langza area hilltop near Khoijumantabi, eastern and western Chinglangmei Hill range in Churachandpur district; Ukha Tampak, Phuaisanphai, Moirang Turel Mapal Ward No. 9 and Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district ; Sokom Village, Nazareth Village, Keiphom Village, Sahumphai Village, Khunbi Bazar areas in Kakching Districts. These Operations are conducted to flush out miscreants and unwanted and to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

Destruction of Bunkers:

A total of 33 bunkers were destroyed in Kangpokpi and Bishnupur Districts by a combined team of Manipur Police and Central Security Forces in the last 24 hours. As follow up action of the decision taken in the Joint Meeting of the Unified Command chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur on 03 July, a joint team of Central Forces and State Police conducted search operations in vulnerable and fringe areas in both hill and valley districts and 18 (eighteen) bunkers used by armed miscreants were destroyed in Imphal West, Imphal East, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Kakching Districts on 8th July. Similar operations will be conducted in other places also.

Checking at Nakas and Check Posts:

In order to check the movement of miscreants and unwanted elements both State and Central Forces installed 126 Nakas/ Checkpoints in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley, and Police has detained 270 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State. The checking at the nakas/checkpoints were intensified round the clock in order to prevent unwanted incidents.
