Cases of mob justice and lynching are being reported from different parts of the country. In a recent case from the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, an Islamic mob lynched a 35-year-old Hindu to death over a petty dispute. Following the barbarous act, the district administration demolished the houses of the perpetrators under the bulldozer drive.
Raju Gwal’s father Babulal, registered a First Information Report (number–568/2023) at the Cantt police station on July 3. In the FIR Babulal told the police that, on July 3, around 10:30 at night a local boy Lacchi Prajapati came to his house and informed that his son, Raju was lying on the bridge to the meat market in a pool of blood.
Soon he reached the spot and found his son is the bade state, he was bleeding almost from every part of his body. Lacchi told him that Ishtak Shah, Mushtak Shah, Mustakeem Shah, Saddam Shah and others attacked Raju with the intent to kill him.
Raju told Babulal on his way to the hospital that, he went to Pari Hotel, located in the meat market area to have food. While having the food Raju had a small argument with Ishtak and Mushtak. Following this argument, a number of people assembled and attacked Raju.
Following this complaint, the police booked the accused men, namely Ishtak Shah, Israr Shah, Mustak Shah, Mustakeem Shah, Saddam Shah and others under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 149 (unlawful assembly).
Notably, Raju died during his treatment at the hospital around three in the night. Angered by this, the people of relatives, social organizations and Hindu activists gathered at the district hospital at around nine o’clock on July 4 demanding bulldozers to be razed on the shops and houses of the accused.
After his death, section 302 (murder) was invoked against the culprits.
Taking immediate action the Superintendent of Police Guna, Rakesh Kumar issued orders for the arrest of the culprits. Within two hours to the death of the victim, the police nabbed the culprits. All these accused were also presented before the magistrate on July 4.
During this, apart from regional MLA Gopilal Jatav, former MLA Dway Pannalal Shakya and Rajendra Saluja, police forces in large numbers including CSP Shweta Gupta, Tehsildar GS Bairwa, NAPA CMO Vinod Shukla were present on the spot. The activists put pressure on the administration and police officials to take action.
On July 5, the administration razed the houses of the culprits as visuals from the demolition drive showed on social media platforms.
Notably, the administration has been taking stringent methods to punish the accused in the state and has been running the Anti-Mafia and bulldozer drive in the state. First, the drive was introduced to free up the encroached land from the land mafias but later on the administration started using the demolition drive against the accused of rape and murder.
However, in a recent case from Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, the district administration demolished the house of a man identified as Pravesh Shukla, who urinated on the face of a Tribal man. The video, of this act went viral on social media. Taking cognizance of the matter the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan immediately issued orders to institute an FIR against the accused and book him under UAPA.
From his official Twitter account, Chouhan wrote, “A viral video of Sidhi district has come to my notice… I have instructed the administration to arrest the culprit and take strict action and also impose NSA.”
As per the reports, police registered an FIR under sections 294, and 504 of the IPC and SC/ST Act against one Pravesh Shukla. The National Security Act (NSA) is also being invoked against the alleged accused on the orders of the Madhya Pradesh CM.
