Guwahati: A doctor’s perverted character becoming a reason for shame for the medical fraternity in Assam. Even ASHA workers were forced to protest against the accused doctor and demand his immediate arrest. The incident took place in Nazira Geleki Primary Health Center in Sivasagar district.

A maternity woman from the Laxmijan tea estate was admitted to the health centre on June 27.

After the woman was admitted, the health officer, Dr Shahad Ullah, took photos of her private parts on his mobile camera while treating her. The scene went viral in a group at the health centre. Later on, the clips went viral on other social media networks too. This caused a stir at the health centre against the unethical practice of Dr Shahad Ullah. The ASHA workers who brought the patients to PHC strongly protested the incident. Angry ASHA workers said that Dr Shahad Ullah made such photographs of a pregnant woman and made it viral, which has insulted the entire female race. The ASHA workers have also submitted a memorandum to the Joint Directorate of Health through the Sub-Divisional Health Officer to take punitive action against the doctor involved in this unheard-of incident.

On the other hand, The Assam Tea Tribe Students Association (ATSA) lodged an FIR against Dr Ullah at the Geleki police station in Sivasagar on June 28. The student association termed it an unfortunate and complete violation of medical ethics and demanded punitive action against Dr Shahad Ullah.

The All Assam Students Union (AASU) also staged a protest against the shameful act of the doctor and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused person. AASU said it is an insult to the women’s race, and this type of activity will not be tolerated. The student body said that the incident came to light as the clips went viral; there is a possibility that the accused doctor might have taken photographs of several other victims which never came to light. So a proper investigation by the police will only give justice to these victims. The victim’s husband also filed a complaint against the doctor at the Geleki police station.
