“If anyone comes to rescue Cows during Bakrid, Kick them and throw them in Jail,“ said Priyank Kharge, Karnataka Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology and the Son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in a viral video to the police official as a little few days left for Eid-ul-Adha or Bakri-eid.

“Those who wear shawls, take the law into their own hands and say they are from these days, kick them and put them behind bars. If there’s anyone who’s a self-proclaimed leader and who spews venom in the name of communal issues, then action should be taken against them. I don’t want unnecessary communal riots. The law is very clear on transportation of livestock. If they have the right documents, don’t harass them,” said Priyank Kharge, according to a report by India Today.

Notably, his comments was for the members of Bajrang Dal, who rescue cows from smugglers. Here, it is worth mentioning that many cabinet ministers, even before their portfolios were announced officially started making pronouncements unbecoming of any responsible authority. Some, in a hurry to hit the headlines also stooped to make a mockery of themselves.

Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh hinted at withdrawal of the anti-cow slaughter law in his interaction with the media persons after taking over as a Minister. He also went on to add-“The present anti-cow slaughter legislation makes a provision for slaughtering buffaloes but not cows…But why cows shouldn’t be slaughtered? Many farmers are in trouble due to stipulations of this act. I myself have been rearing cows and have struggled to burry when a cow died”.

Interestingly, the existence of an anti-cow slaughter law in the state goes back to 1964 while similar legislations also existed among many other states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh among others from the past 59 years.
