On June 20, Lohit Express got derailed near Bengal-Bihar border. The train started its journey from Guwahati, Assam and was heading to Jammu. As per the reports, around 10 coaches of express train got detached.
This incident happened between Dalkhola railway station and Suryakamal railway station. It is located between the North Dinajpur district of West Bengal and Kishanganj in Bihar.
According to the passengers, the ten coaches separated from the main engine, which caused panic. After the derailment, the station master of Dalkhola rushed to the spot, and even police also arrived to assess the situation. The officials are investigating the cause of this mishap.
It’s should be noted that recently on June 2 Balasore train tragedy occurred. The tragic train accident killed 292 people and injured nearly 1,100 in what was the worst accident suffered by the public transporter since 1995.
The tragic incident that took place on June 2 involved the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express and a goods train. According to the railway officials, the triple train tragedy was a result of “deliberate interference with the electronic interlocking system”. Even Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the accident occurred due to a “change in electronic interlocking”.
Electronic interlocking is an arrangement of signal apparatus that prevents conflicting movements between trains through an arrangement of tracks. It is basically a safety measure to prevent signals from being changed in improper sequence. The aim of this system is that no train gets the signal to proceed unless the route is proven safe.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now investigating the case, and the agency intervened after the claims of tampering with the electronic interlocking system were raised by the concerned officials, which caused the accident.
On June 20, CBI found the missing Soro Section Signal junior engineer Amir Khan and began their questioning regarding the train tragedy. It is a significant development in the investigation of the Odisha triple train accident.
Recently on 17, four wagons of a goods train got derailed while it was on its way to a Vedanta Ltd plant in Ambodala yard in Rayagada district of Odisha. It was on its way to the plant from Ambadola in Odisha’s Rayagada on a special route.
