Video of a person spitting on food while preparing it is making rounds on social media. As per the media reports, the video is from a restaurant in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Taking cognizance of the matter, and following a complaint, the Ghaziabad police arrested the accused man.

As per the First Information Report, accessed by Organiser, the accused has been identified as one Masoom son of Alam, a resident of the Kishanganj district of Bihar.

In the viral clip, a person can be seen spitting in the food packaging polythene. The video is allegedly from Salaam Chicken Restaurant in the Loni area in Ghaziabad. (a video of the said incident can be seen in this report by Dainik Bhaskar)

An FIR (number–492/2023) was registered at the Loni police station area of the Ghaziabad district on May 24. The complainant, Rampal Singh informed the police about the said video. Based on his complaint the police arrested the accused Massom from the hotel.

Masoom has been booked under IPC sections 269 (spreading infection), and 270 (malignant act likely to cause infection or disease) with sections 3 and 4 of the epidemic act, 1897 and section 51 of the disaster management act, 2005.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Loni, in a video statement, told the media, A video was going viral on Twitter, in which it was claimed that a person is spitting in food while packing it. Taking immediate cognizance of the video, the person seen in the video has been taken into custody by registering a complaint at Police Station Loni. Investigations are underway in the case. The district head of Hindu Yuva Vahini, Shubham Kumar told media, that the viral video of a person packing food in the polythene after spitting in it is of the Salaam Chicken Restaurant near Loni Giri Market. This restaurant is owned by Salaam and Ayub Qureshi. Kumar alleged that the act of the accused had hurt the sentiments of the people. The HYV activists have also demanded that the restaurant in question be closed.

Cases like these are not new to this region of Ghaziabad. Back in January 2023, the police arrested a man identified as Taseeruddin for spitting on chapatis while preparing them.

News agency ANI quoted the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Poonam Mishra Sahibabad saying, ‘A video was going viral on social media from the area under Tila More police station, in which a man was making rotis by applying spit. Accused Taseeruddin has been arrested in the case & further legal action is being taken’

The matter came to light after a video of Taseeruddin spitting on the dough while preparing Rotis went viral on social media. The roadside eatery was identified as one ‘Madina Hotal.’

As per the media reports, on December 17, 2022, the video of making bread by spitting at Royal Hotel in Mawana of Meerut district went viral, after which Shoaib was arrested.

On May 10, 2022, at a wedding ceremony in Meerut, Firoz, who made roti, was arrested after a similar video went viral.

Earlier, a person named Naushad was caught spitting on naan roti at an engagement ceremony in the Kankarkheda area of Meerut.

On July 5, 2022, hotel employee Arbaaz was arrested for spitting roti at the Sadabahar Hotel in Jalalabad town of Bijnor.

Social activist Zakir Ali Tyagi, who has expressed his opinion on these issues on various platforms, says, ‘There is nothing like spitting on bread. There are some people in the Shia community, who blow after reciting a prayer so that the food remains blessed. In all such old cases that have been registered, even the charge sheet has not been filed to date.’

Whatsoever be the reason, this practice contaminated food and leads to numerous diseases.

This month only Organiser compiled certain cases where Hindus were seen confronting Muslim owners for having Hindu names on the shops, especially eatery outlets.

In the said video a woman from a group of Hindus said, “On scanning the QR code a Muslim name is shown. When the name of the shop is Shiva then why is there a Muslim name for the payments? The problem is you have kept a Hindu name for the shop but you are Muslim, this is not right, why are you defaming Hindus?” asked the woman.

“Why are you keeping the name of a Hindu deity in the shop if you are a Muslim? This is not right and you should change the name of the shop” said the man behind the camera.
