The condition of Hindus in Bangladesh has been vulnerable since always. In recent times, there has been a rise in cases of sexual abuse and conversion against the minority Hindus in the country.

In a recent case, a Hindu woman was allegedly raped and murdered in Mokshedpur upazila of Gopalganj district.

The victim is identified as Smriti Bachar, a resident of Shantipur under the Jalirpar Union of Makshudpur Upazila of Gopalganj district. Her body was recovered from the paddy fields.

As per the locals, after the death of her husband, some Islamists had an eye on her land. The land grabbers were led by Muhammad Badal Seik. A few months ago, Seikh and others forcefully cut and stole valuable trees from her fields. Later, Smriti Bachar filed a police complaint. Based on that complaint, police arrested Muhammad Badal Seikh and sent him to judicial custody.

Video of people carrying the victim’s body was shared by the Twitter handle Voice of Bangladeshi Hindus. The caption says, “A Hindu widow woman Smriti Bachar was raped and killed by Md Badal Sheikh at Mokshedpur upazila of #Gopalganj district. Her body was recovered from a paddy field. We hope that the international human rights organizations will play a silent role as usual.”

Angered by the victim woman Seikh raped and killed her after getting out on bail. After the locals tracked the body the police stated, prima facie it looks like the victim woman has been murdered after rape.

On May 5, Organiser reported a similar case from Bangladesh where stalker Ksuar Miyan killed a minor Hindu girl for refusing to accept his proposal and convert.

Miyan stabbed a minor Hindu girl, identified as Mukti Burman (16) on her way back to school in Barhatta Upazila of the eastern district of Netrakona in Bangladesh. The victim’s family claimed that the murder was done for not entertaining the proposal of love extended by the accused.

In protest of this murder, the local residents observed the human chain protests on May 3. On the same day, police arrested the accused Miyan.
