On May 24, Nishad Party announced that they dissolved state and national executives on the first day of their state convention. The party is an ally of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, and the party’s national president Sanjay Nishad is the Minister of Fisheries of Uttar Pradesh.

Nishad party is conducting a two-day state convention to discuss its role in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. These new steps are taken to bolster the party and will form new executive committees.

Previously, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party contested on the election symbol of BJP, and Pravin Nishad, Sanjay Nishad’s son, won from the Sant Kabir Nagar seat on BJP’s ticket. But this time in 2024, Nishad Party will fight on their own symbol.

The convention was attended by office bearers of various cells of the party, including the Rashtriya Nishad Ekta Parishad, Mahila Morcha and the Yuva Morcha. The preparations for the upcoming general elections have already started.

According to the party’s president, “The preparations will be done in three phases. In the first phase, the party will work to strengthen the presence in 27 Lok Sabha seats that have more than 4.5 lakh voters. These 27 LS seats, which are situated close to the river banks, will be prepared to vote in favour of NDA (National Democratic Alliance)”. He added that the work will be done on the remaining 53 Lok Sabha seats in the second and third phases.

The party will strengthen their booth-level and block-level committees to establish targeted relationships with its target voter base. Besides organising cadre training camps, the party has started training its workers and office-bearers.

Sanjay Nishad stated that the party would work to guarantee the victory of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the more than 27 Lok Sabha seats located along riverbanks.

Meanwhile, a senior BJP functionary reacted to the decisions made by Sanjay Nishad, “Everyone is free to make their own decision, but the BJP has not yet decided on seat sharing with allies and nor have there been any talks on the issue”.

The Nishad party is a Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal. It was founded in 2016 by Sanjay Nishad, who was a former member of the Bahujan Samaj Party. This party was formed to empower people from those communities whose occupation centres around rivers. These communities traditionally work as fishermen and boatmen such as Nishad, Kewats, Bind, Mallah, Sahani, Kashyap and Gond.

In the recently conducted Uttar Pradesh 2022 elections, the party fought in alliance with BJP and won 6 seats in total. The party president Sanjay Nishad was appointed as the Minister of Fisheries in Uttar Pradesh Government.
