Imphal: Three people, including an ex-MLA, were arrested on May 22 for allegedly conspiring to set ablaze houses on fire

Along with the ex-MLA identified as Thangzalam Haokip, also known as TT Haokip, the two others were arrested along with weapons for their involvement in the fresh violence that erupted at the capital city on May 22 morning.

The incident took place May 22 morning after armed miscreants asked to shut down vendors at the New Chekon area.

While addressing the media persons, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that one ex-MLA was involved in the conspiracy. But he didn’t disclose the name of the ex-MLA.

The Chief Minister also urged the people of the State to join and cooperate with the State Government, stating that the State Government is working to restore normalcy and joint operations are being conducted in different parts of the State.

The State has sought additional 20 companies of central security forces to be deployed in different sensitive locations, informed the Chief Minister.

He also informed that additional 20 companies of the Chief Minister also appealed not to flare up communal tension and inform immediately to any nearby police stations or through emergency numbers of any suspicious activities.

The arrest of TT Haokip and his associates indicates the truth, but the Delhi unit of Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) falsely claimed that an ICI Church in Imphal’s Chassad Avenue was ‘targeted and burnt down by Meitei mobs’.

“Devastating scenes of ICI Church at Chassad Avenue, Imphal engulfed in flames, a testament to the utter incompetence of our State administration. The people entrusted to protect us have failed miserably, leaving us to face this catastrophe on our own,” tweeted KSO Delhi & NCR, inciting communal tension.
