A minor girl in Bihar’s Motohari has accused a cleric of sexually harassing her in the madrasa. The accused has been identified as cleric Jamshed Alam, the cleric at Kathan government Madrasa. He has been booked under charges of rape.

A First Information Report in the case was registered at the Mehasi police station of the East Champaran district of Bihar on May 12. The accused as of now is absconding. Jamshed is a government teacher at Mehasi School as well.

As per a report, the minor victim in her complaint told the police, “Near my house, there is a Madrasa, almost 18 months back I went to the madrasa to study. One day cleric Jamshed Alam stopped me after recess, on asking he said, he wanted to give me some homework. When all the students left, Alam clicked vulgar pictures with me and later started blackmailing me with those pictures. He has sexually assaulted me after blackmailing me”.

When she confronted the cleric he said, he will make her pictures viral on social media. After mustering courage, she finally told her father about Alam on April 21. When her father confronted the cleric, he threatened him and asked to leave. The same day he brought five to six goons to her house and threatened the family with dire consequences. He even said he will shot the victim’s father.

The family in fear did not register a complaint against the cleric, however, they finally broke the silence and reached the Mehasi police station on May 12 and filed a police complaint against Alam and three other men from the Madrasa.

The Mehasi police station in-charge Sunil Kumar Singh told the media that, based on the victim’s complaint they have registered an FIR against the cleric and three others. The minor also recorded her statement under section 164 of the CrPC. Further investigations into the case are underway.

The officer said, the accused as of now is absconding and they are raiding potential spots to nab the culprit. He will soon be under police custody, he added.
