As many as three Maoists were killed in an encounter near the Taparanga forest area under the Madanpur-Rampur police station limits of Kalahandi district of Odisha on May 9.
The development occurred when a team of Odisha police, on a specific tip, launched a counter-insurgency search operation near the Taparanga reserve forest area; it’s been reported that the searching party was ambushed by the Maoists to which the police retaliated heavily, subsequently killing three Maoists in the gunfight, the identity of the Maoist killed in action is yet to be ascertained.
An official of the Odisha police too sustained a serious injury in the attack and was later rushed to the state’s capital for treatment; he is reported to be out of danger, and it was learnt that the security forces have also recovered an AK-47 from the spot along with bodies of three male cadres of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist).
Two Maoist cadres were neutralised in Chhattisgarh
In another significant development on the Maoist front, two Maoist cadres, including a woman Maoist, were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the insurgency-hit Sunna district of Chhattisgarh on May 8.
According to the information received, the gunfight took place when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was combing near the Danteshpuram village under Bheji police station limits of Sukma on May 8; it’s been reported that both the Maoist killed in action was carrying a combined reward of Rs 11 lakhs.
One of the deceased Maoist has been identified as Local Operational Squad (LOS) commander Erra who was carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head; the other Maoist cadre killed in action has been identified as Podiyam Bhime; she was working as a deputy commander of the same LOS unit and was carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakhs, suggests sources.
In another similar news, security forces have managed to neutralise two active cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the proscribed CPI (Maoist), in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district on May 7.
As per the reports, a joint team of Telangana police along with Greyhounds commandos (special counter-insurgency unit of the Telangana police) was out on a search operation near the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border where they came across the Maoist party near the Puttapudu area; it’s been learnt that a fierce gun fight broke out between the Maoist and the security personnel in which two Maoist cadres were neutralised.
