The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) issued a legal notice to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on May 4, for his derogatory remarks against Bajrang Dal in partys manifesto. The legal notice demands compensation money worth 100 crores from Kharge.

The notice was issued by the Chandigarh unit (Vidhi Prakosth) of the VHP and its youth wing Bajrang Dal on May 4, demanding compensation within 14 days.

The said notice mentions the following points;

  • An election manifesto was issued by Kharge for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections.
  • In page 10 of the said manifesto, the party president made derogatory remarks against Bajrang Dal, a branch of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
  • The said point mentioned in the manifesto calls for banning the organisation in the state if allowed to come in power. It also draws a parallel between a social service organisation like Bajrang Dal with terror outfits like PFI.
  • The PFI and SIMI are terrorist organisations associated with Al-Qaeda and ISIS and are observed by UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) and are clearly mentioned under the Unlawful Prevention Act.
  • The Bajrang Dal under the aegis of VHP believes in universalism, tolerance, Dharmic Unity, National integrity and service towards Bharat Mata. In doing so the organisation seeks motivation from Bhagwan Ram and Hanuman Ji who are the ideal embodiment of service and Dharma.
  • On every natural calamity, the organisation serves Humanity in the best way possible.
  • The derogatory comments made against the organisation have a tendency to injure the reputation of the organisation.

Hence, the organisation demands compensation.

VHP’s lawyer and co-head of its legal cell Sahil Bansal charged in the legal notice, “That the defamatory statement which you made in the election manifesto and its subsequent release in general public is having a tendency to injure the reputation of my client, lower them in the estimation of others and bring them in obliquity contempt and ridicule,” he charged Kharge in the legal notice.

“My client demands special damages on account of injury inflicted to their reputation, and honour due to the statement/averments, which you have made in the election manifesto,” he said.

The VHP counsel “advised” Kharge to pay a total of Rs 100 crore and 10 Lakh to the VHP and Bajrang Dal within 14 days after the issuance of the legal notice.

The VHP chief, Vinod Bansal Ji said, “Congress comparing Bajrang Dal with organisations like PFI which is banned in more than 100 countries is highly condemnable. On one hand, PFI is involved in terrorism, human trafficking and anti-national activities but Bajrang Dal talks about national unity, Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam and serves Humanity. The same Bajrang served humans during the harsh covid-19 crisis and have proved their worth to the nation in every natural or man-made disaster.”

He added, “The Congress president has not only attacked Bajrang Dal but Bajrangbali as well and has hurt the religious beliefs and sentiments of 100 crore Hindus, this is why he should immediately compensate by paying Rs 100 crore as fine”.

The Bajrang Dal will not stop here, they will keep fighting in every lawful manner possible against the fake allegations made by the Congress, he added.
